Udupi, Nov 23: A day after Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math expressed his opinion in support of the Babri Masjid demolition, the religious leader was allegedly the target of defamatory remarks and threat on Facebook.
On Sunday November 23, Pejawar Swamiji, while speaking at the condolence meet for chief patron of VHP Ashok Singhal who passed away recently, had said that the demolition of Babri Masjid was right and that it had brought him a sense of 'satisfaction', and that he had advised the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to go ahead with construction of the Ram Temple at the disputed site, but his advice was not taken.
Following Pejawar Swamiji's statements, a person by name Abdul Salam in a post on Facbook made defamotory remarks against the Swamiji and also reportedly threatened him, stated a complaint letter submitted by Raghuram Acharya of Pejawar Math to Udupi SP Annamalai.
Strongly condemning the remarks, the appeal states, "We urge the police to take immediate action against such anti-social posts and trace those who are circulating them on the social media, and deal with them as per the law."
A complaint was later filed in Udupi town police station.

Udupi, Nov 23: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, who will be ascending the seat of Paryaya during January next, said that after perusing the title deeds relating to the land where Babri Masjid stood, he felt that it was not wrong to have brought down the mosque structure there. He said he had got a sense of 'satisfaction' out of this demolition.
The Swamiji was addressing the gathering at a programme organized by the district unit of Viswha Hindu Parishad (VHP) at Govinda Mantap Kinnimulky here to pay tributes to Ashok Singhal, chief patron the Parishad, who passed away recently.
"I had advised the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to go ahead with the construction of Ram temple at the disputed site. I also had told him that if other parties withdrew support on this issue and the government falls, it will get elected again with absolute majority. But Vajpayee did not take my advice," he explained. He stressed that the temple would have been completed had it been taken up then, going by the conducive environment which prevailed in the country then.
RSS leaders, Shambhu Shetty and Subrahmanya Holla, apart from BJP stalwart, Somashekhara Bhat, were at the dais. VHP district president, Suprasad Shetty, delivered introductory address. Ratnakar Amin welcomed. Mattar Ganesh Kini proposed vote of thanks.
