My father is innocent, says Rahul Mukerjea

Mumbai, Nov 23 (The Hindu): Rahul Mukerjea, son of Peter Mukerjea who was arrested last week in the Sheena Bora murder case, visited the Mumbai office of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the fourth straight day on Sunday.

Peter Mukerjea is the fourth accused to be arrested in connection with the case. His wife Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai were arrested by the CBI earlier.

According to sources, Rahul Mukerjea was at the CBI office for over two hours. “He has given us some documents that will help us establish the motive,” said a CBI officer. “He said Sheena was threatening to reveal that she was actually Indrani’s daughter and not sister, and that this provoked Indrani to hatch the murder plot. We will verify the authenticity of the material he has given us.”

“My father is innocent, but I do not want to compromise the investigation by talking any more about it at this point. I will say more when the time is right,” Rahul Mukerjea told reporters on his way out of the CBI office.

Meanwhile, a senior CBI official revealed that Peter’s arrest was planned around a week in advance.

“A few days before we filed the charge sheet, we started calling Peter for inquiries. His evasive attitude only deepened our suspicions,” the officer said.
