Mangaluru: Renovated Devadigara Samaj Bhavan inaugurated in city

Mangaluru, Nov 24: The renovated Devadigara Samaj Bhavan in Mannagudda, Gandhinagar here was inaugurated on Sunday, November 22 on the occasion of the 90th year celebrations of the Karnataka State Devadigara Sangha.

Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Padmabhushan Dr D Veerendra Heggade presided over the programme. He also released the souvenir on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering later, Dr Veerendra Heggade said, "Dr Veerappa Moily is the top leader of the Devadiga society. He is providing best guidance for the development of the society. When he was the chief minister, he had brought about many laws that were beneficial to the people. As a politician, social server, and author he is responsible for various reforms in th country.

"It is a matter of pride that he has received the prestigious award 'Saraswathi Samman' for his great work "Shree Ramayana Mahanveshanam'," Dr D Veerendra Heggade added.

Former union minister Dr Veerappa Moily and Malati Veerappa Moily inaugurated the renovated air-conditioned building of Devadiga Samaj Bhavan and Mangala Samskritika Ranga Mandir.

Dr Veerappa Moily was honoured on behalf of the Devadigara Sangha for being the recipient of the prestigious award 'Saraswathi Samman'.

Addressing the gathering after receiving the award, Dr Moily said, "I could achieve all these as I was born in this district. One can achieve success by perseverance and hard work. One should have interest in life. With sincere efforts one can achieve success in life."

"To grow in life, Bhagwan Bahubhali is an inspiration. By this inspiration I have begun the great work on Bahubahli, and one phase of work is finished," he added.

Vaman Maroli, president of Devadigara Sangha welcomed the gathering.

Dr Shivaram Shetty, HoD, SVP Study Centre, Mangaluru University presented a note on literature of Dr Veerappa Moily.

The editor of the souvenir Subhashchandra Kanvatheertha compered the programme.

Ministers such as Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, corporator Jayanti Aachar, M N Rajendra Kumar, Dr B S Sherigar, Neurosurgeon Dr K V Devadiga, Dharmapal Devadiga, president of Dubai Devadiga Sangha Harish Sherigar and others were present during the ceremony.

Vice-president of the association Ratnakar Devadiga, secretary M Devdas, Subhaschandra Kanvatheertha, organizing secretary Yashvanth Devadiga, Kadri, president of women's unit of the association Geetha V Kalyanpur and youth association president Prashanth M H were also present on the dais.

After the stage programme, cultural programmes were held in the afternoon.
