Karkala: Vehicle knocks down man, morning walk ends in death

Karkala, Nov 25: A person who went for a morning walk lost his life while an unidentified vehicle knocked him down on the road on Wednesday, November 25.

Mahesh Poojary (44) from Kuntady is the deceased person.

As per details, Mahesh Poojary went for walk on Wednesday early morning. When he was walking in front of the Mosque at Anekere here, an unidentified vehicle hit him. The head part of the deceased’s body has seen severe damage.

The body has been taken to taluk government mortuary.

A case stands registered at town police station.

    This kind of accidents are common in SK. Early morning people walk at the roadside with black Banian which is hardly visible. Please walk carefully and the drivers be careful while driving.

    Incidentally many road accidents could be passed on as simple accidents when in fact there could be an ulterior motive if there is reason to believe the victim had personal enmity or other issues like property, love etc.!!!

    One hears of these accidental deaths almost every day. The Police are having a tough time in this respect. Mangalore Police have introduced Traffic Wardens squad which is playing its role in the main roads in Mangalore. It will take some time before the members of the squad are able to inculcate the need for SAFE DRIVING in the minds of the public.

    It is recommended that the system of Traffic Wardens be introduced in other districts in Karnataka.

    Having said this it is hoped that the guilty driver of the vehicle is duly reprimanded by The Police Department and a suitable case filed against him.

    In most of the case, an unidentified vehicle is only hitting the people resulting in their death. No details of vehicle no, drivers an owners were given for ulterior motives. This is apparently to twist the case if culprit has clout and money power.

    Number of accidents in Karkala are increasing due to following reason: 1)Traffic increasing due to non-shifing of Busstand to newly built Bandimut Bus stand despite High Court orders. 2)Most of vehicle riders are not adhering to Speed limit fixed in area.3)Large number of young drivers recklessly driving and that too without license. 4) Road in Anekere area not repaired despite repeated request from local people and press coverages. It is time for local administration, police and representative of people to realise dangers and take immediate steps. Otherwise, the Karkala may become city of handicapped people !

    RIP!! Most of DK is devoid of footpaths or service roads including national highways (Mangluru-BC Road), forget the small inside roads, because of which many innocents die a gory death!!

    RIP really sad..early morning vehiclers cannot see the road properly one reason, some vehiclers speed creates this accidents, first of all street walking people should be very careful.. i have seen every road people walk very carelessly,thinking that we are tax payers..and pay the life.

    Bad taste comment, in fact people carelessly drive thinking that they are tax payers..and murder innocent people. In Karkala, there are no footpaths and it is up to vehicle owners to drive carefully and within limit fixed. Strangely, most of vehicle owners never follow rules and police also do not care !

    @Zakir Moodbidri,you are not correct.you see nowadays vehicles are increased,Hardly one has place to walk and vehicles are passing in both direction and without Speed Limit,there can hardly one walk.Many places footpath is not visible.Govt,is not bothered to see that roads are not in good stage.with potholes they try to avoid and go to side without concerning People.How can a citizen avoid this carelessness of Drivers?May the Soul of the deceased rest in peace.

    If roads are not meant for walking, do we have foot paths?. Forget morning or evening walk, normal walk is not possible on our roads. As busses and cars pass by people get down into charandi which is filled with garbage and thorny bushes. Panchayat should pay attention and make foot path.

    Same was the thought (as your's) of this poor man who lost his life today.

    First things first, Roads are not meant for walking.
    Have seen many people walking in the middle of the highway as if there are no vehicular movements early in the morning.

    When people are bothered about their health so much, little importance should even be given to their own life.

    Walking on the road? Even sides of the roads are not safer in India. In a city like Mangalore, we don't have footpaths on all roads. This is India and sab chalta hain. God forgot to make an eye for all human beings on the back of the head. So, can't watch all sides either.

    Does your comment open goverments eyes and will they start constructing footpath from tomorrow or eveb after 100 days from now?
    No,Never.

    Will you go and jump into the ocean if theres no swimming pool in your locality??

    We should first of all try to be safe and protective of our own life.

    Let the roads be for vehicles.
    Find different place for your walk if you want to die a natural death, if not it will result in ROAD KILLS.

    How terrible and sad that an innocent young life is lost due to negligence of another.!! May he rest in peace and God grant strength to family members to accept this untimely loss.
    We hope culprit gets severe punishment, so other such drivers will be careful in future.

    Sad for the death of an innocent. May his soul rest in peace.
    Walking in Jungle is safer than on roads. At least some precautions can be taken.
    On Roads, you will never know from where, how an by whom, you will be hit.
    Many Roads don't have foot paths, and those in city are encroached by hawkers and shop owners.
    With so many unruly, roads are really a death trap!
