Coast experiences rain accompanied by lightning and thunder

Mangaluru, Nov 25: Different parts of Dakshina Kannada district including the city, Udupi and Kasargod districts received rain coupled with thunder and lightning on Tuesday November 24 afternoon.

The quantum of rain widely varied, with some areas getting drizzle, with some more getting heavy downpour. Some places like Sullia experienced cloudy weather. There was widespread rain in Udupi district too.

A Tamil Nadu-based labourer working for a stone crusher unit at Mariyadi in Marpady named Manjunath (25), suffered lightning shocks and got admitted into a hospital. House of Zulaikha in Vishalnagar developed cracks due to lightning, while electric poles got uprooted on the houses of Sandhaya in Popadikallu Kadandale and Janaki in Navagrama,Beluvai.

Five cows died due to lightning at Hirgana in Karkala taluk. These cows belonged to locals, Subraya Pai, Mohan Pai, and Jagannath Poojary. Revenue officials visited the spots and assessed losses.
