Tokyo stocks close low

Tokyo, Nov 25 (IANS): Tokyo stocks ended lower on Wednesday, bringing an end to five straight days of closing highs as geopolitical tensions following Turkey's downing of a Russian fighter jet a day earlier saw investors in a risk off mood and seeking out safe havens.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 77.31 points (0.39 percent) from Tuesday to close at 19,847.58, Xinhua reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 11.27 points (0.70 percent) to finish at 1,594.67.

Notable decliners comprised securities, financing business and banking-related shares.

The turnover was 2,189.1 billion yen ($17.88 billion).
