Bengaluru, Nov 26: The controversial Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Superstitious Practices Bill, 2015, will be referred to the scrutiny by a high-level panel headed by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra.
A decision to refer the Bill for detailed scrutiny was taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting on Thursday.
The Social Welfare Department headed Minister H Anjaneya has brought the Bill to the State Cabinet. Since the Scrutiny committee headed by Mr Jayachandra has not studied the Bill, it was decided to refer the Bill to the committee, sources in the government said.
Various social activists have been pressuring the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to get the proposed Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill passed after the murder of scholar Prof M M Kalburgi at his residence in Dharwad.
