Mangaluru, Nov 28: "Opposing the rise in prices of essential commodities and various other issues the Dakshina Kannada district Congress women's wing will stage a protest against the union government in front of the dc office on Monday November 30 at 10.30 am," president of Dakshina Kannada district Congress women's wing, Mamatha Gatty said. She addressed media persons at the district Congress office here on Saturday November 28.

"After the BJP government came to power at the center, prices of the various commodities including pulses touched the sky. The price of petrol still remains the same even though the price of crude oil has come down to USD 31 from USD 130," she added.

"There has been a drastic decrease in grants given by the union government to Zilla Panchayats and Taluk Panchayats. Due to state government's grants the panchayats have survived in the state. Along with this the union government has cut short the grants for the various drinking water projects and there is a plan to curb gas subsidy as well," she explained.

"A noteable fact is that the various projects started by the UPA government are being targetted. Along with this the government has urged the temples to deposit the gold they posess in banks. Congress women's wing strongly oppose these issues and will stage the protest on Monday Novemeber 30 in front of the dc office at 10.30 am. The president of the state women congress Rashmi Hebbalkar will particpapte in the protest along with ministers and MLA's of the district," said Gatty.

Request to organizations calling for bandh
She requested the organizations involved in communal violence not to carry out any bandh. "Whenever our children leave our homes we fear for their safety. Dakshina Kannada is an educated district and we are peace loving people. An environment has been created by few communal organizations to spread fear. The Congress women's wing strongly condemns this and requests the organizations not to indulge in activities of violence," she said.

Mangaluru north block women Congress president Shashikala Padmanabha, Ullal block women Congress president Sulekha and corporator Appi were present at the meet.
