Mangaluru: 'Nudisiri' draws to a grand close with presentation of awards

Mangaluru, Nov 30: The four-day 'Alva's Nudisiri' at Moodbidri drew to a grand close on Sunday November 29 with the presentation of awards to ten personalities.

In his presidential address, Dr T V Venkatachala Shastri hailed the concept of 'Nudisiri',which he felt, has been providing impetus to Kannada state, language, andculture, through creative programmes in a big way.

Shastri also hailed Dr Mohan Alva, who has been the inspiration behind 'Nudisiri' programme, as a person who has held high the rich culture of literature and other art forms, and achieved unparalleled heights in his mission through resourceful leadership qualities, but at the same time, continuing to be down to earth, polite, and gentle. Shastri called upon every Kannadiga to be concerned about the need to support and enrich Kannada literature, language, and culture.

On this occasion, ten persons who have registered admirable achievements in their respective fields, were honoured with 'Alva's Nudisiri' awards. The awards carry a shawl, garland, memento, fruits and flowers and cash component of Rs 25,000. These awards were presented by Dr M Mohan Alva, after the awardees were led to the stage to the accompaniment of procession followed by Arati and sprinkling of rose water.

Those who received the awards are Dr Bannanje Govindacharya (literature and discourses), Dr Sumathindra Nadig (literature), S V Rajendra Singh Babu (movies), Vidwan R K Padmanabha (classical music), Dr B N Sumitra Bai (literature), Ishwar Daithota (media), Leelavathi Baipadithaya (Yakshagana Bhagavathike), Varthur Narayan Reddy (agriculture), Honnappachar (sculptor), and Syed Salahuddin Pasha (service to culture).

The citations presented to the awardees were read out by T A N Khandige, Dr Yogeesh Kairody, Shivaprasad M, D V Prakash, Guruprasad Bhat, M Sudharani, Ramprasad Kanchodu, Dr Praveenchandra, Chandrashekhar Gowda, and Dr Padmanabha Shenoy.

The awardees, in their response, hailed Dr Mohan Alva for holding this annual event this time with the concept of newness, and wished that this concept will be adopted by every Kannadiga and enrich their language and culure. Rajendra Singh Babu requested Alva to introduce a three-month course in his institutions to provide training in cinema.

In his introductory address, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, said that the way in which the 12th 'Alva's Nudisiri' blossomed and concluded has given rise to a sense of fulfilment in him.

Andaru Gunapal Hegde proposed vote of thanks. Secretary, Kidoor Venugopal Shetty, presented the programme.
