Kambala to get rid of its 'violence' tag in a week ?

Daijiworld Media Network - Moodbidri (SP)

Moodbidri, Dec 2: Speaking to media, noted Kambala scholar and veteran Kambala judge, Gunapal Kadamba, expressed the hope that Kambala might get rid of its 'violence' tag in a week and will be allowed to be held subject to certain conditions, by way of an order which is expected to be issued in about a week's time.

He said that a team of medical officers from different veterinary universities from various parts of the country, which had visited Kambalas here last year and inspected the arrangements, had submitted a report to the government. He added that chief minister, Siddaramaiah, is being apprised of the ground reality, and expressed confidence that with the support of people's representatives from the coast, a favourable order may be issued in a few days.

He noted that Kambala happens to be a part of culture of Tulunadu and nearby districts and is a sport with folklore background. "It provides a medium to bring out the capability and power of young populace of rural areas. A training academy is being run efficiently for its growth," he said. Kadamba added that union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, has assured that he would convince the central government about the baselessness of allegations levelled by Animal Welfare Trust. He added that only the owner and those who race the buffalos may be allowed to handle a stick.

He said introduction of laser beam technology will help in providing more accurate results and also speed of the racing buffalos.

In all sports, if deployed animals are not treated cruelly, it can't be termed as violence.
Hard times are there to free animals in Jungle also.
Humans are also used in circus, sports etc!
Animals been used to carry carts, ploughing the fields, horse races etc. But it's important, not to torture anyone, humans as well as animals.

Brilliant.. I was unaware that capability and power of the youth could be brought out by whipping an animal and assaulting it. It might be the culture of tulunadu, but some cultures need to undergo a change. It is also our culture to look after the animals even in their old age and just because they can't run anymore does not mean they are worthless. If Mr Kambala really wants to get the youth together and bring out their 'power' and 'capability' then he can arrange for other kind of races where he himself can participate. Malkhamb and Kushti are also part of tulunadu cultures. Why not encourage them too??? Why only games which encourage animal violence is encouraged? It is such a disgrace.
