Bengaluru, Dec 4: Through an order, the state high court has given some concession in norms relating to size of playground required for new English medium schools stipulated by the department of education. A single judge bench presided over Justice Anand Byrareddy passed this order on Thursday December 3.

The bench concurred with the views expressed by the petitioner, Karnataka Private Schools Managements Federation, that it would be very difficult to find a playground by the side of the school building in the city. It asked the government to permit opening of new English medium school whenever the school management is able to find a suitable playground within a short distance from the school premises.

As per the present norms, for permitting opening of new schools from first to tenth standards, it should have a minimum two acres of land in rural areas, One and half acres in municipal and town panchayat limits, and one acre in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and other city corporation limits. The circular issued by the government in November last year also had stipulated that this land should be owned by the owners of the school, and that it should have been converted. The school managements had questioned this order through a petition in the high court.
