Discovery wins big at Asian Television Awards


Singapore, Dec 4 (IANS): Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific clinched the top honours at the 20th Asian Television Awards here including the Cable & Satellite Channel of the Year award for Discovery Channel and Cable & Satellite Network of the Year trophy for the network.

Discovery also won the Best Documentary Series for “Abalone Wars 3”, Best Natural History or Wildlife Programme for “Revealed: Rann of Kutch”, and Best Cinematography for “The Minority”.

In total, the network won 11 trophies at the awards ceremony, which took place here on Thursday.

“Bagging the two top awards in the cable and satellite category is a huge honour. Discovery has spent the last 21 years telling great local stories across Asia Pacific,” Arthur Bastings, president and managing director, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said in a statement.

“From natural history to extreme jobs, we are focused on delivering content that resonates and deepens our connection with viewers. The recognition across various categories is testament to the strength and quality of our productions, talent, and teams. This only inspires us to further raise the bar and embrace opportunities of a fast-changing media landscape,” Bastings added.

Some of the other honours included Best Documentary Programme (One-Off/Special) for “India's Wandering Lions”, Best Children's Programme for “Wild But True”, best Infotainment Programme for “How China Works” and Best Lifestyle Programme for “Passage to China” (TLC), Best Sports Programme among others.

The Asian Television Awards upholds a prestigious reputation of showcasing quality television production. The awards attract more than 1,200 entries over 30 categories annually.
