Mangaluru: 2,500 cyclists pedal through city as part of annual rally

Mangaluru, Dec 6: Nearly 2,500 cyclists descended on the city streets here early morning on Sunday December 6, as part of the 9th annual bicycle rally organized by Swasti RxLife in association with Jyothi Cycles.

The rally was flagged off by police commissioner S Murugan and inaugurated by retired lecturer of Canara College Gopinath at Ladyhill.

The rally passed through Ladyhill, Bejai, Malemar, Kulur, Panambur, Kottara, Urwa Store, and Ashoknagar before culminating at Amrita Vidyalayam.

Sahyaadri Sanchaya, YHAI Mangalore team and a number of other associations, groups, and individuals including children took part in the rally.

Sahyadri Sanchaya, which has been fighting against the Yettinahole project, promoted the cause of saving Netravati river by holding up banners.

As many as 11 bicycles were given away in a lucky draw. Three bicycles were given to postmen who do no have them, and three other bicycles were given to senior citizens Walter D'Mello, Matadakani (77). Ramachandra Rao (85) and Vishwanath (75).

    Added to this awareness wearing wearing helmets while riding bicycles would be good too.Great to see the younger gen all out in force.

    All cyclists will be safe in Mangalore if Monster Buses and trucks stop speeding on road.

    As a part of Mangaluru Smart City Plans, Cycle bays should be introduced. Advantages are as follows:
    1. Cycle riders will be safe.
    2. Less Pollution.
    3. Savings of precious Foreign Exchange on fuel bill.
    4. Healthy Citizens ...
