Udupi, Dec 6: A day after Congress decided to field Pratapchandra Shetty as its candidate from Dakshina Kannada-Udupi constituency for the MLC elections, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde hit out at the Congress top brass and said that the ticket should not have been given to someone who was not intestered in contesting.

J P Hegde, who is contesting as an independent candidate, spoke to reporters here on Sunday December 6 and informed that he along with Bhujanga Shetty, another senior Congressman will be filing their nominations on Monday December 7 at 12 noon.

Addressing reporters, he said, "Pratapchandra Shetty has been telling from the last six years that he does not want to contest the MLC elections. He is not even interested in it, nor is he participating in party activities of late. I do not understand why the party's top leaders are still supporting his candidature.

"There are many in Congress who are more capable than him. It is not right to give him the ticket without discussing with the party members or considering other candidates," he added.

"I am not asking for the ticket, it could have been given to someone more capable. I am standing for elections on behalf and support of Congress party workers.

"I will file the nomination on December 7 at 12 noon. If by December 12 (last date to withdraw nomination) some other capable candidate from Congress from Udupi-Dakshina Kannada constituency stands for the election, I will withdraw my nomination," he said.

"The Congress is not listening to its party workers. It is wrong to give ticket to someone who is not interested in contesting," he reiterated.

Apart from J P Hegde and Bhujanga Shetty, Kota block Congress president Shankar Kunder and Billawa community leader Harikrishna Bantwal will also file their nominations at the same time.

Congress hi command will change its decision and will give B-Form to JP Hegde. He has done a lot when he was MLA from Brahmavar. Pratapchandra Shetty will take back his nomination if has little shame left in him. Not given single visit to any Panchayat. His MLC funds may be getting transferred to Oscar. That's the only reason he was forced by Oscar.

Mr.J.P.Hegde is good person but he have to respect the party's decission. Congress party has given him enough opportunity to fight the election also sure he will get ticket for the 2019 MP election also. But fighting for MLC ticket is not fair since party decided to give the ticket to sitting MLC. Either he have to wait for his turn or once again become the party less man. Congress doesn't want such a power hungry person.

Mr. Hegde, It is wrong on your part to rebel against the decision of the CONG leadership. Why do you want to be an MLC/MLA/MP? Everyone says you are honest (?) and a clean person. If so, why are you raising voice against CONG? Did the party not support you during the last general elections? Somehow you have been successfull in 'maintaing' a clean image. We know how greedy are you right from your tenure as MLA of B'vara with a symbol of 'BUS'. Support Mr. Pratapchandra Shetty and try to defeat the candidates of other communal parties. If you dont do that, people will start calling you a 'communal'.

By the way, what is the duty/responsibility of MLC and how they are helping citizens..or its just burden to the tax payers..its a peculiar case where RAJYASABHA members who are are not elected by people, but since one & half years they are stalling the Bills of elected representative of LOKSABHA!!..5 years will run like this and another election will come..life goes on..

JP is a back stabber , he was JDS became minister , quit, then was independent, joined congress, won and lost LS , now wants Prathap's job. With Halady gone from BJP , must be sensing a opportunity.
MLC is meant to elect intellectuals and loyals , if somebody thinks they are popular they should contest general election.
