Bantwal, Dec 9: In an attempt to murder, a man was brutally attacked with weapons in broad daylight at Maripalla junction here on Wednesday December 9.

Haneef alias Mada Haneef, aged about 38, was attacked by a gang of around 11 persons, sources said.

It is learnt that Haneef was going from his house to his shop located near Maripalla junction, when around 11 persons came in an Alto car and bikes and attacked him with weapons, before fleeing the spot.

Haneef who was critically injured was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Sources said that Haneef was an accused in the murder of Rifai, an auto driver, last year.

Haneef's brother Hakeem said that he dropped his brother at the shop on Wednesday morning, soon after which 11 persons armed with weapons came and attacked Haneef. It is suspected that the attack was carried out by Jabbar gang.

ASP Vincent Shantakumar, Banwal circle inspector Beliappa and other police personnel visited the spot.

DCP Shantharaju visited the hospital where Haneef was admitted.

Bantwal rural police have registered a case.

Revenge attack. But why 11 people had come at a time and attempted for murder..?? Haneef's gang may be very big and attackers came in full strength to finish him and remove other hurdles in between if any. Haneef should be very very careful now onwards. He should not move out. Maneye Jailu.

Our own version of isis and talibans, I think the police should give free hands to both these gangs so that they finish themselves and eradicate some cancer in the society. Also police job iis reduced, they don't have to succumb to the Khangress Pudari,s pressure to release some of their men from these groups.
