Udupi: Hearing-impaired showcase cricket skills at three-day tournament

Udupi, Dec 11: It may seem like any other cricket tournament, except it isn't.

The three-day T-20 tennis ball cricket championship for the hearing impaired, organized by Udupi District Welfare Association of the Deaf began at MGM College ground here on Thursday December 10.

This is the fifth edition of the Karnataka State Deaf Tennis Ball Cricket Championship.

Jayakar Shetty Indrali of Udupi Badagupeti Co-operative Society inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.

Addessing the gathering, Jayakar Shetty said, "Every person is talented in his or her own way. The hearing impaired are special people and they are also talented. They are many talented specially-abled persons who have made a name for themselves in various fields. They should not feel left out."

He stressed that along with empathy, they also need opportunities to display their talents.

Ganesh Rao, general secretary, Association of the Deaf, Bengaluru, Sunil, vice-president, Jessline Lewis, president, Udupi District Welfare Association of the Deaf, Yograj Shetty, general secretary, Krishnamoorthy Archana, Ivan D'Souza and others were present.

As many as 16 teams participated in the tennis ball cricket championship and impressed the gathering with their skills and sportive spirit.
