Udupi: Congress' hopes dashed, CM fails to convince J P Hegde

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 12: Former state minister and MP, Jayaprakash Hegde, has stayed firm on his stand to contest the coming legislative council election despite request of the chief minister (CM) to withdraw from the race.

It is learnt that Karnataka chief minister, Siddaramaiah, contacted Hegde over telephone on Thursday December 11 to request him to withdraw his candidature. Hegde told the CM to allow him to do what he has decided to, and conveying his confidence at winning the election.

This development has almost dumped the hope of Congress to make Pratapchandra Shetty's election a smooth affair. The party leaders were hopeful that Hegde would bow to the wishes of the CM.

Saturday happens to be the last day for withdrawal of candidature. District Congress president, K Gopal Poojary, has requested both Bhujanga Shetty and Shankar Kunder to withdraw their nominations. There is widespread resentment in the district about fielding Pratapchandra Shetty again for the council election. Still, Kunder and Shetty are likely to withdraw their nominations today, and express their support for the candidature of Jayaprakash Hegde.

In the meanwhile, Sanjeev Matandoor, who had filed nomination papers as a dummy candidate of the BJP for the forthcoming council election from local bodies constituency, has withdrawn from the race on Friday. Matandoor happens to be the district general secretary of BJP. With this, Kota Srinivas Poojary, official candidate of BJP, has remained in the race and he is expected to have a smooth sailing.

Good leaders, who work well, will always prove winners, irrespective of party affiliations.
However, individually, one will not be able to achieve much.
Need a company, but of course, a good, progressing company.

Jph first comment was if pratap was interested, I would not have contested. This shows that he did accept his candidature. After this, he said pratap was forced while I wanted to contest and now, you give seat to others and not to pratap. Total contradictions. All these people lobbied hard to get the seat. Pratap having won 4 terms as MLA consecutive times and now 2 times as MLC has never lobbied for any ministerial berth or even for this MLC. Some people maintain dignity in politics and high principles. It is always easy to attack them as they don’t go for cheap publicity. But reality is Pratap will easily win this election as it is the party workers wanted him to contest in spite of the fact that he did not show interest to contest in the first place. I sincerely hope true hearted politicians like him will win and not the one who are power hungry with personal vested interest.

Oscar is in limelight just because of Sonia who has blessed him back door entry into Rajya Sabha...If he contests for Lok Sabha as a candidate, he will lose bitterly and only his chamchas will vote for him and if JP contests against Oscar in LS election as an independent candidate JP will surely win by huge margin..Thats ground reality and Madam Sonia amma doesn't understand as she has been kept in utter darkness by these good for nothing leaders.....

same thing happening in Parliement right now.
Mrs. Sonia Gandhi feels that she is more than Whole judiciory system of India and she can distrupt Entire Parliament session for sake of her family.

If they continue for sure in Next general election Congress will get 0 seat. and they will not get chance to even protest inside Parliament. and soon there will not be any EX MP from congress to provide slippers to Rahul only they have to depend on Panchayath president.

Good decision..already Congress left out JP, so no need to fear..Congress did same thing to VIJAY KUMAR SHETTY..OSCAR influenced to get ticket for BAVA, who had only money power..BAVA won because there was anti BJP wave only..otherwise, in his native place itself there is no much supporters for him..VIJAY KUMAR SHETTY was promised MLC & other post to withdraw nomination..He did so, but not given any post..

High time for Oscar to shut his mouth and keep quiet. As a MP, Oscar's contribution was zero. He just wanted to be in good books with Sonia in order to be in power. We don't want such leaders. And those who call Oscar to cut the ribbons should understand this fact.

Oh..finally CM wakes up from his deep sleep. Very good decision JP Hegde. If there is no respect for able candidates, then there is no point in continuing in congress. In congress, only those do chamchagiri survive. Moily, Oscar are best examples. Wish you good luck in the election and I am sure JP Hegde will be the winner.

as there is only a single seat to win in dakshina kannadait looks like kota srinivas poojary from bjp, prathapchandra shetty from congress and jp hegde as independent are 3 strong contenders for the single seat to be won.

even though at the outset it looks like smooth sailing for the bjp candidate
in my view, i think jp hegde will win the seat as most of the bjp supporters will vote for jp hegde, if he doesn't contest from congress.
