Mangaluru, Dec 12: The Padil-Bajal railway underbridge, work on which has been going on for almost one-and-a-half years, has opened for traffic, but only temporarily.

Speaking to daijiworld, corporator of the area Vijaykumar Shetty said that the underbridge has been opened temporarily as the Kannur-Veeranagar stretch is under repair.

"The Kannur-Veeranagar road has been closed for repair, hence to reduce inconvenience to commuters, the Padil-Bajal underbridge has been opened temporarily. However, the underbridge will not be closed again," he said.

"There are a few works on the underbridge still pending, and we aim to finish them in two months' time," he added.

"Lights have been installed in the underbridge, but the MCC is yet to give electricity connection. This would be done by today," he said.

The foundation for Padil-Bajal railway underbridge was laid on August 16, 2014 by the then union minister for railways D V Sadananda Gowda. The project was expected to finish by February this year, but the deadline was later extended to June and then to October. The underbridge is now expected to be completely ready by February 2016.

This will surely flood during the Monsoon, There is no drainage nor a provision. They will dig again and make it worse. Unplanned construction. This is what we expect to be a smart city !!!

This is what I found when I drove through the road while on my way home this afternoon:

Quality of work - you cannot even call it poor, it is worse than that
    Storm water drainage - non-existent
Water seepage from the ground below - plenty

Did our corporator Vijayakumar Shetty earmarked Rs. 10 crores for the project - as boasted in his last corporation election pamphlet proclaiming his achievements as corporator - to do such a shoddy job?

    People,

Shah Jahan built Taj Mahal for his wife Mumtaz Mahal...DV Saddu Gowda is building this "monument" for his love for Manga loreans...

Saddu please arrange a boat during rainy season for people to cross this underpass...

A statue of DVS with full display of his asset(?)could be a good idea as well...

I dont understand why we should follow some western, European standard. India should develop the own standard which should followed and given examples in other countries.

Off course the construction work needs to be improved which can be said without refering to any other country.

India also has one of the fastest roads and excellent construction works.

FYI. TAJMAHAL is not made by referring to European/western/ Japanese standard.....

After one and half year...this is the bridge with heap of mud...Smart city is a distant dream. Completion of smart city project will take well over 50 ears with this pace!!
Give it to foreign company though it cost double and we may have better results!!
