Udupi, Dec 12: "People need not have doubts about Lokayukta as an institution. They should keep their faith in the institution to fight against corruption. If wrong things happen, it is not because of any bills or institutions. Fault lies with individual persons," said Justice N Santosh Hegde.

Justice Santosh Hedge was speaking after inaugurating an informative session organized by Premier Institute of Placement and Research Centre, Dharwad in association with Bunts Sangha, Udupi and international associations of Lions Club, Leo Dist 317 C, at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Sabha Bhavan here on Saturday December 12.

Delivering a talk on 'Role of students, teachers and parents in making India great’, Justice Hedge said, "Students should abide by two main values - contentment and humanity. Students should not run after desires. The power of changing the society lies in the hands of youth.

"People should protest against corruption wherever it happens in our country and also avoid people who are involved in corrupt activities. Society's views about prisoners have changed. The public welcomes people who come out from jail," he added.

"Politicians have already ruined four days of parliamentary session over silly reasons. The expenditure per day in running a parliament session was Rs three crore in 2006, and now it has certainly increased.

“Present political representatives have no concern about the well-being of public. There is a bill passed by the state government which says that it is mandatory for a club to have a politician as a member in it. These developments show how the government is changing," he said.

Speaking about the recent developments in Lokayukta, he alleged, ''It is a conspiracy of the state government to weaken the Lokayukta institution."

Talking about Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi, he said, "I will not comment about Adi. After one year, the incident is being discussing now. This is a conspiracy of the government to remove Adi from his position by issuing a notice. The people in government might have thought that after weakening the Lokayukta, they can easily spend lavishly.

“Not a single complaint has been reported to Lokayukta so far. The chief justice should have known about the history of Bhaskar Rao. It seems that the government appointed Bhaskar Rao to defeat the Lokayukta's purpose.”

Dr Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodabidri, M S Subhas, vice-chancellor, Vijayanagara Srikrishna Devaraya University, MJF Ln Sridhar Shenava, district governor, Lions Dist 317C among others were present during the programme.

MJF Ln Jaykar Shetty Indrali presided over the programme. B R Shetty, managing trustee, PIPR centre, Dharwad welcomed the gathering.
