Mangaluru: Congress expels J P Hegde, Harikrishna Bantwal for six years

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru/Mangaluru (DV)

Bengaluru/Mangaluru, Dec 14: The Congress on Monday December 14 expelled rebel candidates Jayaprakash Hegde, Harikrishna Bantwal and sitting MLC B T Dayananda Reddy from the party for six years.

While Jayaprakash Hegde and Harikrishna Bantwal are contesting the MLC elections as independent candidates from Dakshina Kannada constituency, Dayananda Reddy is contesting as an independent from Bengaluru Urban.

Speaking to reporters after an official function on "Minimum Government, Maximum Governance," at Vikas Soudha in Bengaluru, chief minister Siddarmaiah made it clear that the party would not tolerate indiscipline.

Siddaramaiah, who had personally called the former minister and MP from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, to withdraw from the race in favour of Congress party’s official candidate Pratapchandra Shetty, said the party’s decision has to be honoured. "We cannot allow individuals to dictate terms to party," he said.

Jayaprakash Hegde, Harikrishna Bantwal and B T Dayananda Reddy

J P Hegde and Harikrishna Bantwal were unhappy with the party for giving the ticket to sitting MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, who they said did not deserve it as he had failed to participate in party activities and had even expressed reluctance to contest the polls.

Sitting Congress MLC Dayananda Reddy, who has been denied the party ticket from Bengaluru Urban and has defied party directions to withdraw from contest, has also been expelled.

AICC member P V Mohan confirmed the expulsion and said that the action was taken based on the reccommendation of the district Congress to KPCC, which in turn reccommended the same to AICC.

Speaking to reporters, J P Hegde said that the expulsion from the party was expected. "The Congress has not expelled us for reasons such as corruption or dishonesty. I have always followed certain principles, based on which I am fighting the election. The party seems to have different rules for different people. I should have at least been given a chance to explain myself. When Pratapchandra Shetty engages in activities that are not in the interest of the party, he is rewarded, but I am being punished," he said.

Speaking to daijiworld, Harikrishna Bantwal said, "What good has the party done for me in the last 43 years anyway? It is not us but the big leaders who deserve to be expelled. It is because of them that the party has declined. It is this kind of attitude of the party leaders that has brought doom to Congress. In this MLC election, the entire backward class will turn against the party."

The Legislative Council elections will be held on December 27 and the results will be known December 30.

Mr. JP is known as Mr. Clean all over his constituency. He lost last time due to the caste factors but his clear image is intact. By expelling him, Congress is digging its own grave. There is no unity in congress in DK congress leaders which will lead to the party's downfall. Oscar has done nothing for the state or the District and now his name is appearing in the Delhi Case filed by Mr. Subramanyam Swamy.

Expulsions of J P Hegde, Harikrishna Bantwal are major set back for Congress in DK & Udupi districts. Oscar Fernandes to be blamed for such unwanted situation. He himself is burden for the party in state politics (even though he is efficient & powerful in Congress high command office in Delhi), how come he is sacking sincere leaders ?

Regarding J P Hegde & Harikrishna Bantwal's candidature in MLC election... yes, JP shouldn't have so adamant as Congress has given him opportunity to contest earlier in MLA/MP elections. He could have waited for next MP election.
Regarding, Mr. Harikrishna Bantwal, he offcourse has full right to demand for ticket as he is associated with party for long & a sincere worker. Congress could have considered his demand.

Mr. Gonsalves, what about CM Sleeping Siddu, he also came from JD(S), he is also a party hopper, in fact he was expelled from JD (S), so please don't comment on Mr. JP Hegde, we know Mr. Hegde personally, he is honest, non corrupt, hard working and most of all very nice guy, he worked for congress honestly, he should have been given a MLC ticket, why do congress ignore such people, Congress under late Mrs. Indira Gandhi & late Mr. Rajeev Gandhi was honest and worked sincerely to help the poor, kept in touch with people and tried their best to solve the problem. Current congress under the leadership of Waitress Mrs. Sonia Gandhi & useless son Mr. Rahul Gandhi is most corrupt, arrogant, and lacks leadership & direction, many grass root congress workers will ditch the party if they don't listen to ordinary party workers.
Hope common sense prevail, we don't want to see grand old party of 125 years disappear. That will hurt us. We don't like to see radical & communal forces getting stronger.
We support Mr. JP Hegde. All the best Mr. Hegde.

I have seen this happen to many honest Congress workers who had sacrificed so much for this party. JP Hegde is an honest congress worker and worked hard for Udupi's development. Congress has started digging its own grave from this election. I am sure, they will lose power in the next election. I wish JP all the best and I wish to see him winning the MLC election.

Dear honourable shri Siddaramayaji, what tolerance, what discipline and what dictation?By expelling three people from the party,do you think that you have done great deal.First you set your home in correct condition and then talk about tolerance, discipline and dictation.Do you think that what you are doing is correct? Whatever you are doing is under the pressure of your High Command, because you need your chair and power.Do you know that there will always be victory for truth, honesty, sincerity and hard work.Hard work never go waste.Mind it.By expelling sincere and honest and hard worker like J.P.Hegde,Harikrishna Bantwal,do you think that your party can win easily.No,never.Victory is for sincerity, hard work, discipline and it will not go waste ever.Everybody knows what is going on inside and outside of your corrupt party. Therefore sincere candidate like J.P.HEGDE and Harikrishna Bantwal will definitely win in the race easily without any hassle. Then only you will realize your mistake, lick your elbow and apply balm on the wound you only inflicted to your party. All the people knows how sincere J.P.Hegde is? No need of your disciplinary action on them.100% their victory is certain.Don't worry,be happy."SATYAMEVA JAYATE".Definitely you will regret for your action and decision.

Abdul Rafiq.. don't talk nonsense. We know JP Hegde and we all know the poli tricks of congresss. When useless fellow like Oscar Fernandes is running the show, honest people won't get any benefit. Congress is full of corrupt and communal people. You must be big fan of congress as they celebrated butcher Tipu Jayanti. So, you don't have to tell JP Hegde to join BJP or any party. JP Hegde doesn't need any party. His name is enough for him. Last time he lost because of wave against congress. If he had contested as an Independent, he would have won.

Mr.Nawaz...this Abdul Rafiq has BJP mania. So, he sees everything in BJP. He doesn't understand what is right and what is wrong. For him Congress is always right. But for us Congress is wrong here. JP Hegde is able candidate and he should have given a chance. Congress sinking ship and hence good people should come out of Congress.

    Jossey,

I think market rate of Panchayath member's vote in this election increase from Rs1000 to Rs5000...you know who can afford to pay this amount to about 6000 voters, right?

After taking this amount from parties, still they vote for them?? we will know on 19th...don't worry there is no legal limits for expenditure of MLC elections...so everything is legal here...you could see effects of "Central Excise" on 19th as well...
