Konkani film 'Nachom-ia...' becomes eligible for Oscars, creates history

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Dec 16: In a hearty news for the Konkani-speaking community, National Award-winning film 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' has created history by becoming the first Konkani film to make it to the list of films eligible for Oscars.

The film, directed by Bardroy Barretto and produced by Angelo Braganza of Goa Folklore Productions, is among the four Indian films to be listed in the 'Reminder list of productions for the 88th Academy Awards 2016'. The list has been put up on Oscar Awards official website.

The other Indian films in the list are 'Jalam', a Malayalam movie by M Padmakumar, Kannada film 'Rangitaranga' directed by Anup Bhandari and Hindi film 'Hemalkasa' starring Nana Patekar and Sonali Kulkarni.

Ironically, India's official entry 'Court', a Marathi movie, did not make it to the list that has a total of 305 films from all over the world.

'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' producers sent their entry privately under two categories - best background score and best foreign film. Sources said that the movie has been selected in the reminder list of best foreign film category.

So far, 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' has won three National Awards and seven awards at various international film festivals.

'Nachom-ia Kumpasar', meaning 'Let's Dance to the Rhythm' stars Vijay Maurya and Palomi Ghosh in the lead roles, besides Prince Jacob and John D'Silva. Mangaluru talent Ester Noronha has lent her voice to one of the songs in the movie. The film features well-known actors from Goa namely comedian Natto, Samy Braganza, comedian Kenny, Selwyn Braganza, Roy Menezes, Abdonio, Meena Leitao, Mathew Araujo, Meenacshi Martins, Carmo Santos and Roque Lazarus amongst others.

WHAT I FELT...OUR MARKETING TREND IS POOR TO SHINE OUR INDUSTRY. WE ARE THINKING WE HAVE MONEY BEING SMALL COMMUNITY..ITS A WRONG POLICY. WHITE COLOR DOESN`T SUIT EVERY WHERE & ALL SUBJECTS DOESN`T SUIT EVERY EXAMPLES. STOP EGO PROBLEMS & TRY TO GROW. GOOD LUCK.

Hi Richard Arun, you already nominated it to the Oscars? Hahaha..Nominating voting itself has not started :-) First it has to appear on the first ballot. If it appears then first round of voting, then if it gets nominated, it will appear on the Final ballot :-)
