Udupi: JD(S) leader Nischal Shetty loses life in road accident

Udupi, Dec 16: Nischal Shetty (36), a JD(S) leader from Alangaruguthu in Padubidri, lost his life in a road accident which occurred on the night of Tuesday December 15. This tragic accident happened in front of Vidya Nitketan group of educational institutions at Kaup in the district.

Shetty was riding his motor bike with his friend on the pillion, when a truck carrying load of fish collided with his vehicle. Shetty was rushed to hospital but he had already breathed his last by then. Mohan Kalmadi, who was riding the pillion, suffered serious injuries. He is being treated at a private hospital in Manipal.

Nischal Shetty was the district president of JD(S) youth wing. He had married last year. He is survived by wife and mother. His father, the late Gunakar Shetty, was a former president of Innanje gram panchayat.

Shetty was the main force behind the setting up of Hindu Yuvasene unit at Padubidri.

    I agree with the views expressed here about road safety.
    The attitude of the motorists is sickening.
    1. Cars drive with HIGH BEAM - is there a civic sense here?
    2. 2 wheelers with mobile in one hand - social media and riding the bike in another.
    3. Helmets are worn for name sake. No straps attached. Their hairstyle is more important You see!?
    4. riding with numerous bags and people - no margin for error.

    5. It is difficult to blame heavy vehicle drivers when 2 wheelers ride in a dangerous way.

    6. There is a drive for organ donation but there is no drive to prevent accidents - no fines no consequences to those who flout the safety norms untill it is the Yamadootha who decides.

    RIP.....The Way the Fish Vans are driven both loaded or empty are cause of numerous accidents.
    Why not make the installation of Speed governors mandatory on these vehicles....

    I totally agree with you. But I wonder why this is happening in a coastal place like Mangalore. I hail from Bombay ... 10,000 times more than the traffic load of Mangalore. Yet Bombay commuters driving is several times more disciplined than the CHALTHA HAI CHALATHA HAI attitude of Mangalore. I have seen it for myself. I alighted from a KSRTC bus (from my place at B C Road to State Bank) and tried a short cut crossing a road to the neighbouring Tagore gardens from Kasturba Medical Hospital at Hampankatta the other day. It made my spine shiver seeing the huge unending stream of traffic .. I went down memory lane. Mangalore was never like this a distant 8 to 10 years back. I was standing like a reckless lifeless pillar for over 10 minutes .. not a single vehicle would slow down to let me cross the road to go the other side. I got a first hand experience of how disgustingly selfish Mangalore's traffic system could be. I can only say this .. Mangalore has gone to the dogs.

    Joseph,Doha,In Bombay People are driving with discipline ,otherwise they know what will happen.Good roads and People are too disciplined.Hard punishment is also not spared.In Mangalore our superheros are also not without failure.They just overtake and drive reckless without looking right or left.We cant blame always the Driver of fishlorry or others.I am not saying this particular case.but mostly bikers are a danger to other traffic riders or even to foot path People.May the Soul rest in peace and heartfelt sympathy to the Family.

    May his soul rest in peace. Mangaluru udupi highway has become a killing field and unless authorities introduce strict punishments for drivers causing death nothing is going to change.

    Condolences to family. May his soul Rest in Peace.....I dont know how that accident happen, but these fish trucks spill water on the roads, any vehicle behind has to face the problem... to avoid smell, we speed up and some time, we loose control on the vehicle. Two wheeler s need to face horrible experience..... Authorities kindly help us drivers and riders...
