Mangaluru: United Friends Bejai to host floodlit Kabaddi tourney on Dec 20

Mangaluru, Dec 16: To mark its silver jubilee celebration, United Friends Bejai, in collaboration with DK District Amateur Kabaddi Association, will be organizing 'United Friends Cup' district-level floodlit Kabaddi tournament on Sunday December 20, at Sri Ramashrama PU College grounds, Yeyyadi.

State minister for youth services, sports and fisheries, Abhaychandra Jain will inaugurate the tournament at 6 pm.

Fr Robert D'Souza, principal of Lourdes Central School will bless the occasion. MLA J R Lobo, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLC Ivan D' Souza, Rakesh Malli, president of Dakshina Kannada Amateur Kabaddi Association, and Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld will be chief guests.


About United Friends Bejai

The United Friends Bejai is a peer group from Bejai. Since its humble inception in 1990, the group has been striving hard to make a sustainable change in the life of the underprivileged by providing them assistance in the fields of education, healthcare, social welfare housing and other humanitarian activities. From the very beginning, United Friends has been coordinating and organizing an array of events and fund raising activities to help the less fortunate.

The group has conducted six inter parish cricket, chess volleyball, football tournaments and mega events like 'Fantasia-98' consisting of baby show, dance competition and beauty contest. The two mega events 'Fantasia-98' and 'Fantasia-2000' were the first time in the history of Mangaluru that anyone had organized three events together on a single day under a single roof.

In 2008, the group also conducted district-level inter parish volleyball tournament in memory of the late Sunil D'Mello, and a district-level open rapid chess tournament at Bejai church hall in association with Derik's Chess School. The group has also conducted a mega DJ Nite, a blood donation camp at St Agnes College, Bendore, charity musical evening ‘Patrao Nite' by Patrao brothers, comedy show competition 'Hasyancho Paavs', presented 'Somiya Tu Kaii Vethai' drama and more. Season 2 of 'Hasyancho Paavs' television show in association with Daijiworld 24x7 is being telecast every week.
