Mangaluru, Dec 16: A man committed suicide by hanging at Kodakkal, Padil here on the night of Tuesday December 15, allegedly due to financial crisis. The incident came to light on Wednesday December 16.
The deceased has been identified as Chandrahas Shetty (36), a resident of Kodakkal Shivanagar, Padil.
Chandrahas was working as a pigmy collector with Mangala Cooperative Society Bank.
It is learnt that several people owed money to Chandrahas and he in turn had taken loans running into several lacs. Unable to pay back his debts, he took the extreme step, sources said.
Sources said that Chandrahas had met some of his friends on Tuesday evening, and he seemed normal. When he did not return home even till late night, a search was conducted and his body was found hanging from a rod in a commercial building at Kodakkal.
Chandrahas was the sole breadwinner of the family. His father Thimmappa Shetty passed away a few years ago, and his elder brother is said to have gone missing. He leaves behind two sisters who are married and his mother.
Mangaluru rural police have registered a case.
