Uttar Pradesh women's panel wants action against 'Bigg Boss'

Lucknow, Dec 16 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh Women's Commission has sought action against the 'Bigg Boss 9' reality show being aired on Colours channel.

In a letter to the information and broadcasting ministry, panel chief Zarina Usmani said the show, which is in its ninth year, promotes violence against women and uses offensive language against female contestants.

Taking offence at the contents of the reality show, hosted by Bollywood star Salman Khan, the panel chief has said that the ministry should take an action against the producers and the channel to ensure that violence against women was not shown on the show.

"In the last episode, male contestants have ben shown indulging in physical and verbal violence against the women contestants and this is setting a bad example," Zarina told IANS.

Copies of the complaint were also sent to Prasar Bharti, the National Women's Commission, and Women and Child welfare ministry.
