Kasargod: Torching of AAP candidate's home - Congress activist arrested

Kasargod, Dec 18: Hosdurg police have arrested a block panchayat member, accusing him of conspiring to torch the house of a candidate, who had fought local body election as a candidate of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Uduma Mangad in the district.

The arrested person is Anwar Mangad (36), a Congress activist. Relating to the case, four persons, who have been charged with direct involvement with this crime, had been arrested a few days ago.

Anwar was arrested on the basis of information provided by the foursome.

The house of AAP candidate was burnt down on November 11 by miscreants. The candidate, Ibrahim, was blamed for the defeat of a Congress candidate in the local bodies election. The house had been put on fire when Ibrahim and his family members were away visiting a relative. As a result, Ibrahim had suffered a loss of about Rs 20 lac.
