Mangaluru, Dec 18: "Due to the inappropriate proposal from the ruling Congress in Mangaluru City Corporation, the city has managed to receive only Rs 3.25 crore under the Amrut project of the union government," alleged Sudhir Shetty, the leader of the opposition BJP in Mangaluru City Corporation.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday, December 18, he said, "Under the Amrut scheme from the union government, there is a provision to receive a grant of Rs 200 crore in five years. The city corporation had sent the proposal for only Rs 3.25 crore and has received the same amount of grant, while various other city corporations in the state have received Rs 40 crore and more," Sudhir Shetty added.

"The mayor and the local MLA sent the proposal without consulting the opposition or presenting the proposal in the council meeting," Shetty alleged.

"The corporation has received Rs 280 crore of loan from the Asian Development Bank in the second phase of underground drainage development project. While action has not been taken to repay the interest of the existing Rs 3,000 crore, how could the corporation apply for the additional loan?" Shetty questioned.

"It is a conspiracy to impose the burden on the people. As of March 2015, every person has a loan of Rs 6,000," Shetty said.

Corporator Premananda Shetty, BJP leaders Ravishankar Mijar, Nithin Kumar and Prabha Malini were also present in the press meet.
