Mangaluru, Dec 21: The toll collection at toll plaza near NITK has started from Sunday midnight, it is gathered.

Though the collection of toll fees was to start long time back and twice it was planned to start collecting from specified dates, the plans did not take off due to objections from various quarters. On September 20, Congress party in the leadership of local MLA Moideen Bawa, MLC Ivan D'Souza and youth Congress leader Mithun Rai had protested at the toll plaza saying collection of toll was wrong before providing basic facilities at the venue.

It was also alleged that the construction was unscientific. To prove this fact in the wee hours of Friday, November 6, a heavy truck hit the roof of the toll gate, bringing down a part of it and affecting the traffic on the highway completely for hours.

On August 7, the state high court had dismissed a petition filed by Suratkal Nagarika Samithi against the construction of the tollgate. The court had also ordered police security at the place.

Now it has been learnt that amid police security, the collection has started from Sunday midnight.

They protest they inaugurate, belly filled, burped.
Another side service roads are like Thodu, the bridge over railway crossing looks like a DAM.So said highway passing through the city is ridiculous. People living or plying in this stretch should and must have a accident policy.some body can add to that. But isn't it a sickening and a pitty to think about it.

In the late August, The Supreme Court ruled that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and concessionaires cannot collect toll from commuters if the road is in bad shape.
Considering not only the bad shape of the highway and the forever incomplete bridge at Baikampady this toll collection is illegal!
Now its up to either Suratkal Nagarika Samithi or us to approach the supreme court regarding this matter.

I am not at all getting the logic. Some time back they wanted to start the toll, it's stopped by the MLA, DC and many authorities mentioning so many stuffs are pending like no service road, with in another the range of another toll planned, not completion of the projects ... with so many action items listed to be completed before the toll to be started, the work stopped. Now all of sudden one fine day Toll coming up ... no action items are addressed. what happened to those action items listed, all these were stupid ones which were faught by MLA including DC's agreement. Bykampady bride is ever working project... with no end dates... I think more than 10 times the completion dates are postponed and work is still on . More over condition of the new bridge is so pathetic that I feel ashamed that at this age or era we could construct such a terrifc conditioned bridge. OMG. Just drive via and see the horrible condition. any ways... No logic... this can happen only in India.

So the another type of Goonda Giri, shoot out issues, damaging Toll naka, Party donations, traffic jam, etc will start in this area soon….. And as usual…..I sit on my car, pay the toll tax, blame the govt, move on & forget it….. This repeats when I pass through that gate end number of times….. Anyway Govt vehicles, MP or MLA cars, Gram Panchayat Members, City Mayor, etc, etc are exempted from paying the toll tax…. Rest who is left out???….only common man and why one should bother for common man????

Mr. Abdul Rafiq, Uchila / Dubai
Why are you bringing any community comments into the toll gate issue which effects all religions. If you are fed up in India, please feel to move away from India. Because of people like you we Mangaloreans face religious conflicts. Is that your intenation to create Instability in mangalore. I too have friends from Muslim community. Their thinking is different from what you think.

As long as the roads and infrastructure are maintained on newly built roads, it's approprite to collect toll, like in any other country. But the problem in India is the Toll collection and rates are controlled by Goondas/Mafias were ordinary citizens don't have any right to view their point. Roads and surrounding facilities will be in a pathetic condition even after payring the toll. some roads will be in non unsable conditon. We cann't depend on MPs, MLA,s,corporators for the pathetic condition. It all boils down to the point that citizen's should pay for the bad roads that will be available in the future. Everybody will be busy minting money, while general public will face the difficulty!
