Kundapur, Dec 22: The police quarters built by the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd at Ferry Road here was inaugurated symbolically on Monday December 21.

Speaking to reporters, Udupi district SP Annamalai said, "There was a problem of providing accommodation to police personnel in Kundapur. The work on three blocks is completed so far and the department has handed it over to the police personnel. One building is officers' block and 36 staff will be accommodated in the remaining buildings. The accommodation is allotted on the basis of seniority.

"The work on the second phase is in progress and it will be completed in March 2016. The construction has progressed in a systematic manner with attractive design, solar water heaters, modern kitchens and parking facilities. The compound wall will be constructed soon," he added.

"The work is being completed within the scheduled time. Many police staff were staying in different places and going through hardship. This is a full-fledged police quarters with all the basic facilities," he added.

DySP Manjunath Shetty, station inspector Nasir Hussain, contractor Sudheer Kumar Shetty and police staff were present.

The police accommodation has been constructed on either side of ferry road. It has an officer’s block. The estimated cost is Rs 1,296 lac. The work started on November 5, 2014.

Manjeshwar Construction Company was awarded the contract. As election code of conduct is in force, the inauguration was held only symbolically.
