Kasargod: Foreign national without documents not from Saudi; sheltered by Snehalaya

Kasargod, Dec 22: Abdul Basheer (39), who was found loitering in the streets of the town a few years back without any documents in his possession to prove his identity, is in a precarious position now. India does not want to keep him, but Saudi Arabia, of which he is stated to be a national, has disowned him, stressing that it does not have a national with that name.

'Snehalaya', a rehabilitation centre being run by Joseph Crasta at Manjeshwar Pavoor Bachalike in the taluk has now provided shelter to Abdul Basheer.

For a foreign national to stay inside the country, he needs valid permission from the home ministry. Because Basheer does not have any documents to prove his identity or authorizing him to stay inside India, the officials have no clue what to do with him. They can neither keep him here indefinitely, nor are they able to deport him.

After finding Abdul Basheer in the town in September 2012, the police had questioned him. Abdul can converse only in Arabic and Urdu languages. Even then he has failed to provide concrete information. Initially it was believed that he was from Bangladesh but it was said later that he had been granted citizenship of Saudi Arabia. The information provided by Basheer is neither comprehensible not clear enough to establish his identity and nationality.

After a local court awarded jail sentence of two years to him for straying into India without valid visa, Basheer was released from jail on December 9 this year. Kasargod town police provided shelter to him for a week. He was led to foreigner regional registration office at Kochi, but he was sent back as he does not possess any documents. Although a decision to house him in Cheemeni jail was taken, this could not be implemented because of legal hitches.

Thereafter, he was kept in the town police station here, before the police could find him shelter at Snehalaya. Abdul Basheer says in his broken Arabic and Urdu that his mother hails from Myanmar but this information is useless as no additional information or her address is available.

It is gathered that the police have referred this case to the state minority commission with a fervent hope to break this impasse with their guidance.

Why this mystery is not solved. May be he is a bangladeshi from his appearance and he can not be a saudi. How he landed in Kasaragod?. If he is innocent due to human tafficking he has to be helped on humanitarian grounds. The gesture shown by snehalaya is very much appreciable but he has to be watched as we can not believe any one these days for different reasons.

I remember, before 2014 Lok Sabha election, in election rallies, FEKU was loudly saying 'Hey Bangla deshis, pack your bags. You will be dispatched from India, immediately NDA comes to power'!

What is the current scene? How many Bangla deshis sent back from India?

After all no identity of this Guy. Utilize him in your Snehalaya house so that he will get his livelihood till the matter settles from the Home Ministry.

He looks young and having good and healthy physique let him earn work inside Snehalaya that is what my suggestion.

Once identity is found deport him. There may be thousands of Bangladeshis, Napalies, Butanies, Burmese, Srilankans, Pakistanies in our country and to keep one person for a certain period will not be a burden.

MAY GOD BLESS SNEHALAYA HEAD RESPECTED JOSEPH, HIS FAMILY AND CHILDREN

    HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
MAY THE PEACE FROM THE PRINCE OF PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL AMEN.

..He is surely ROHINGYA MUSLIM from Myanmar, basically of Bangladesh origin..after myanmar riots, some of these people illegally came to WB/AP-Hyderabad also..its not wrong to give asylum to oppressed people..But its sad that these people(not all) dont respect our gesture..just google about few month back West bengal bom# blast by terr#r group JMB..along with Indian,Bangadeshi citizens some ROHINGYA also caught..because of these type of mentality INDIA/EU/US will think twice before accepting refugees..these refugees should learn from TIBETians who are living in India since 40 years..Not single news of theft/riots/terr#r activity from them, thats how they respect our gesture..

"Abdul can converse only in Arabic and Urdu languages" - So please check his Arabic. If he is a Saudi from where did he learn Urdu? Please coordinate with Bangladeshi consulate and deport him to Bangladesh.

@Iffphthikar KSA,dont you understand still when one doesnt have any papers,no Country is ready to accept persons ?why cant India hold him here as a refugee to make papers or clear his identity?Good Snehalaya has come Forward to take with them.Afterall I wonder why no one even his parents miss him?He seems to be lost his memory.Otherwise he could at least tell where he was Born and gone to School .mysterious.I even heard through genetic tests with blood they can identify a Person his origin.Does one risk this by this Person?I am sure he is not fallen from a tree.some origin he must be having .who knows he might regain it after some time. Some People lose their Memory when accidents happen and brain is injured.Nouse of pushing him there and here.

My request to snehalaya is to hand him over to police for action.

because sheltering a foreign national without visa is an offense.

If foreign nationals without visa are given shelter in snehalayas, there will be no place left in orphanages for Indian destitutes and orphans.

He is Bangladeshi, because of his look you can confidently establish that he is from Kolkata or Bangladeshi. If you send him to Kolkata he will surely find his identity. Most probably he worked some years in Saudi so he could speak broken Arabic.

Why is India giving so much importance to such aliens ? Drive him to any international border and shoo him off - let him find his own way home ! He is not a baby to be reared out of taxpayers' expense. Its similar aliens who pose fatal conditions to the nation !

If our soldiers' heads can be severed taken away as a proof of slaying them, if Sarabjit Singh could be returned in corpse form despite so many requests to release him, why India should adopt humanistic measures ? Where were international obligations when India is in the receiving end ?

Are u having a bit of sense before what you comment?

Earlier in the news it was reported that he had undergone mentally sick and during his jail term he spent most of his time in mental hospital.

He remembers not much. So do u expect such person should be left alone as his brain is not functioning of a normal human?

Is humanity dead? Stand in his position and open your eyes and witness how it will feel to yourself and to any of your kith and kin.

Before you comment freely - Put someone of your own on his situation. You have given only bad examples why dont you think of recent good gesture done by a Pakistani family for our Mute Girl Geeta!! when they returned her back after 15 years of taking care of her? Are you telling that even they should have shooed her? Let us all try to make this world good and if you cannot do this at least dont poison it.Try to Be a good Human Being and teach the same to your near ones.

Although various people including me suggested earlier that he could not be Saudi, but more likely to be a Bangladeshi, the article contains some useful information.

Abdul Basheer is not a Saudi name. It is typically used by Bangladeshi muslims.

The new information says that he was granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia, and also that his mother hails from Myanmar.

This suggests that he could be a Rohingya, a people related to Bangladeshis, but resident in Myanmar (Burma). Rohingyas have been rejected by the Myanmarese.

Rohingyas have been using Arabic/Urdu script to write their language.

Saudi Arabia accepted a large number of Rohingyas as refugees (about 400,000), and they were made residents.

Earlier he had said that he was deported from there for bad behaviour.

So, if he is a Rohingya, he is virtually a stateless person.

But some inquiries with the Bangladeshi Embassy in New Delhi might still be helpful to establish his identity.
