Won't apologise for comment, but regret 'Dilwale' collection hit: SRK

Kolkata, Dec 23 (IANS): Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan on Tuesday maintained that he had not said anything which merited an apology, but regretted that the box office collection of his film "Dilwale" was adversely affected due to protests by those who "misinterpreted" and "misconstrued" his comments on intolerance in the country.

"I have not said anything that I should apologise (for). I will fall in my own eyes if I do that," Shahrukh said at a media meet to promote his latest film "Dilwale".

Agonised over protests against the film, Shahrukh said it made him sad when his work did not reach the people as that was the only way he could return the people's "love" for him, and appealed to his fans to watch and enjoy the movie.

Shahrukh said his comments on the intolerance issue was not represented properly.

"At some point of time, I do regret people could not understand what I said. It was not represented properly. If anybody feels bad about it, I regret it completely.

"I just want to wish that all the people who wish to see the film on their own, please go out and see it. Don't get misled by people who perhaps misconstrued what I am saying, so I regret that this has happened. I feel extremely sad," Shahrukh said.

"I apologise if somebody got disturbed, please go out and enjoy the film because it's not me, there are thousands who have made it with a lot of love."

"(It's) too hard for me to understand why something that we make for your happiness would somehow turn into something that becomes controversial or tainted."

Angered by Shahrukh's statement on 'religious intolerance', Bajrang Dal activists opposed the film's screening in Araria and Patna districts of Bihar. Protests also took place in Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Jabalpur and many places in Rajasthan.

The 50-year-old actor was clad in a black suit, and was accompanied by his "Dilwale" co-star Kajol, who was wearing a black saree.

Shahrukh said the 'intolerance' controversy has hit box-office collections of the movie in some parts of the country.

"I can't deny the fact that I've been reading messages on Whatsapp. I've been reading messages on social media, and even on ground that there has been activity all over the country, where the film has been stopped, and not allowed.

"Yes, box office collections have been hit, I don't know exactly the places. But they have been," he said.

"I have been an actor for 25 years in this country. I would like to say I received love from every corner of the country, in spite of religion, region, caste, creed, gender.

"And the only way I can return the love is through my work. And I try my best to do that. I succeed some times, and sometimes I fail, but I try my best to do that. So it saddens me when any of my work can't reach the people, because I do work two or three times a year. It is saddening."

There have been images of the superstar in the social media which Shahrukh found offensive. He said he has even been linked with people he doesn't have any links with.

"A lot of the things I say are misconstrued perhaps, misrepresented, perhaps misinterpreted sometimes. And I am not someone who can sit here and say... this amazing amount of love from my countrymen and women... I have any issue with it in terms of tolerance and intolerance. So I don't.

"But of course like the other day, I was sitting in and somebody put a tweet which does not belong to me. And I can't clarify," he added.

"I see a news which say I am related to an X person who is entirely against my country but that's not true. I have no logistic way to explain all this, at my stage and age. I am a representative of my own country and I am thankful to everybody, but I can't keep explaining that."

Bollywood make good collection in India & some gulf countries, not in Western countries, no one is interested in Bollywood movies in the West, only few Indians watch them, but not second or third generation of Indians, the figure you have given as collection of US $ 22 million is wrong, it should be Rupees not dollars.
What is the contribution of Shah Rukh Khan to public, is he doing any charity work like Salman Khan? He is a pure business man, he has got his movie production & IPL Franchise Kalkota Night riders only to make money, you might say he is entertaining public, yes,he is paid for that and people buy tickets to enter theaters, and not for free.
We have watched "Dilwale" on DVD, its just a remake of Brad Pitt starer Hollywood film, twisted the story with masala & songs, most of the current Bollywood movies are remake of Hollywood movies, just stories & sequences are little twisted, with music, songs & dance.
Regarding intolerance is concerned, there is no intolerance in India, few incidents which are happening since we gained Independence, the worst situation was during emergency in yr 1977, if Shah Rukh wants to see real intolerance he should visit countries like Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Pakistan. Then only he will understand how tolerant India is.
Please don't give too much importance to film stars and their statements, we have bigger & better things to do.

SRK & AK react their "intolerance" comment on base Dadri Incident.
In Dadri incident happened because "Beef Meat" Rumors spreading by BJP leaders son's and Sangh Pariwar.

But BJP Modi Govt ruled India is biggest country of exporting beef.
BJP Leaders (like Sangeet Som) has their own Cow slaughtering Business with Partnership.
BJP received crores of party funds from Beef Exporting Companies.
Arunachal Pradesh RSS Members has permitted to eating beef.

Even BJP Central Union Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier openly said "Can anyone stop me from eating beef"

these all things happened in India last few months But why only "Blind Bhakths" started hating only "Khan's"??
why these kind of double role attitude?

about dadri incidence, - one guy was killed by a mob, 4 bungalows were given, jobs to ladies and so many awards returned.. bihar election loss for BJP, parliament stalled.. all big netas visited ekhlakq family!

3 years ago, a girl was raped by a mob. a muslimnjuvnile was scotfree of harsh punishment! not one returnedawards, no parliament agreed to pass the law, no one gave her family money or job or houses.. she had to go to rahul and rest to beg for passing the law.. not for her.. for the country... rapists walked out and then they pushed the law, which is not applicable to this rapist!

Celebrates don't happen overnight - there is a hell of a struggle, testing times and failures. Once one is successful, there are many who want to be linked to them, may it be by defaming them. Lets say by morphing a part of what they said. If the entire question and his answer to it had been quoted, the issue of intolerance would not have been such a hue and cry. Therefore, its better to all celebrities to stop blindly trusting journalistic members and record every word you say, yourself.

This is what Amotabh Bachchan does. The moment a part of your comment is distorted, you sue them ! For the fear of being dragged to court, no distorted stories get publicized, saving a lot of time and heartache !

SRK..It is you who "misinterpreted" and "misconstrued" the happenings in the country, by calling it intolerance. Now taste your own medicine.

I am proud to be part of that intolerant gang who saliently protested Shah Rukhs View on India by not watching Dilwale and convincing aleast 20 people to not watch the same and they dint watch including my family and frineds who had anyways decided the same. Am getting a sense of satisfaction now that the pinch is felt by Shah Rukh. This is the power of tolerance.

Further to this, if you want to watch Dilwale for rest of the cast, please download the pirated version which is available and spread the link across. This will be icing on the cake for already dwindling collections of Dilwale and we congratulate team Bajirao Masthani for picking up collections and crossing the Dilwale figures.

The whole country is suffering because of 20% fascist mentality people in India. Current ruling dispensation at the Central have no good agenda for the country other than creating communal tensions, Ghar wapsi, Love jihad and unrest in the society. Modi govt don't want any people who opposing Sangha Parivar ideology. So they will try to kill them, physically assault them, destroy their business and finance. Still 80% People are with SRK. God ahead and good luck. People of this country will teach the lesson to this fascist force very soon.

Celebrities must be careful with their words when speaking in public....Because there are few jobless organizations who will take evry opportunity to protest..Even if its right or wrong, these jobless organizations needs a NEW PROJECT which they can get only through KHANS !!

I oppose Bajrang dal for their nuisance. But Sharukh & Amir also would have talked with more maturity. Showing whole country has intolerant is back fired. I liked Javed Jaffry's speech which is now a days shared in scocial medias. He spoke from heart.

boss... days are gone when people take you as a king khan and ready to listen what ever you say. Days have changed. Please be cautious when you say something in public or give any statement. People are watching you. This hit of Dilwale is a classic example that we don't tolerate anything against our nation or on our religion nor on Indians.
