Mangaluru: Baikampady highway overbridge gets unexpected inauguration

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 24: The highway over-bridge construction at Baikampady has been mired in controversies and confusions on account of lack of proper communication and coordination between the highway department and different state departments. The department took several years to complete this 300-metre long over-bridge. In response to complaints of traffic snarls received from various quarters, local MLA, Mohiuddin Bava, arrived at the spot on Wednesday December 23 and inaugurated the over-bridge on the spot without notice, thus paving for movement of traffic on this road.

The highway department has completed its work and has been waiting to give final touches to the over-bridge. Mescom is yet to shift its 11 kv cables located above the over-bridge. Although contract for this work has been allotted, work is yet to begin. As high tension cables pass through this stretch at a low height, huge vehicles will find it hard to move on the over-bridge for the present.

The locals, frustrated at unending queues of the vehicles causing traffic jams at Baikampady since several years, brought a backhoe and cleared things lying on the road. The MLA, who came to the spot, questioned officials of highway department and Mescom, and expressed his resentment at the communication gap between these departments. He asked Mescom to execute cable shifting work during nights, as otherwise people will face problems. He inaugurated the over-bridge in a hurry by cutting the ribbon.

Former minister, Krishna J Palemar, reacting to the development, criticized Bava for inaugurating the over-bridge in a hurry without informing the MP or officials of the department, this being a central government project. While agreeing that the department of highways was to blame for the delay, he pointed out that election code of conduct is in force because of council election, and that his party will soon take a decision about filing complaint with the election commission on transgression of code of conduct by the MLA. He charged Bava of failing to bring any grant from the state government, and trying to project a central government project as his own.

Agood move from the Minister. When something is done without bigones notice ,they are angree, because some Fotos were not done. But they never bothered how Long it has taken now ,why not work is going Forward. And Monopolist Mescom too had not time to do cable work. Now again will be some uncomfortable time during their work.why cant cables can be fixed or done under the Bridge ?It is really funny when they say work is yet to beginn. All These years what they were doing? But atleast now hope the accident rate will go down.and People can travel without much uncomfort.

Anywhere in India, whether any completed projects have been inaugurated by a coolie, who dedicated his entire life into its completion, without considering the duty rendered by them during heavy rain, extreme hot, horrible sunshine? 0.0000001 percentage may be found, but not exact. Finally all credit goes to VVIP people only. Example: Agra Taj Mahal built by whom? no other answer except ShahJahan! Everyone's ambition inside the heart is to become a Great & God, what do you say?

It is a good move by MLA Bava but same time very sad episode.Because without anybody's notice all of a sudden inaugurating the over bridge is arbitery, unscientific and unethical as this is not his personal property. It belongs to central government. He cannot take his individual decision in this regard. How shame and rude our MLA Bava is?.Can't be accepted by the Aam people this type of attitude by government servant like Bava.Whatever may be the merits and demerits, there are so many other government machineries to take decision in this regard, how come MLA Bava only can take decision so suddenly and abruptly.May be vehicle owners are enjoying and happy but the way how the over-bridge has been inaugurated unofficially, hurriedly, abruptly by the single person without giving notice to the concerned departments, authorities is totally wrong.

Please do not use the bridge unless its open by the authorities. Any mishaps or accidents, victims may be denied the insurance claims. All this heroic attempts of politicians have little acceptance in the law

Hangzhou Bay Bridge, a 35 KM over the sea bridge in China built in just 4 years. Now, compare our Tortoise speed constructions with China. We are good in only boasting. We are good in Strikes, objections, Protests etc.,
It's good that they opened Baikampady bridge even before the completion of the construction work. At least we got little relief of daily jams on this stretch.

This is not a good precedent of inaugurating the over bridge without involving elected representatives and without making the over bridge completely fit to use.
