Karkala, Dec 25: A teacher died and 20 students sustained injuries after a maxicab rolled down a gorge at Mala SK Border here on Thursday December 24 evening. The driver of the vehicle also sustained serious injuries.

Students of Bendalagatti School, Dharwad, had begun their annual school excursion early morning on Wednesday December 23 in a maxicab. They were to visit Gokarna, Udupi, Sringeri and Dharmasthala, but near SK Border, the vehicle developed a technical snag due to which the driver lost control and the maxcab plunged down a gorge, sources said.

A teacher of the school, identified as Dudagi (35) was killed in the accident.

The driver who was seriously injured has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.

About 20 students sustained minor injuries.

The 108 ambulance rushed to the spot. Karkala rural police led by SI Krishnamurthy also arrived at the spot and took necessary measures.

Passersby and locals helped in shifting the injured to hospitals.

Karkala rural police have registered a case.
