Mangaluru: At last, work begins on Pumpwell flyover, without publicity

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Dec 27: Politicians and bureaucrats at last seem to have heard the demand from the road users. The work on the flyover at Pumpwell circle has begun. Surprisingly, the work, which is entering the third day, was started without any publicity. There was no inauguration and no politician was seen with pick axe.

The proposed flyover which connects the stretch between Karnataka Bank headquarters and Indiana hospital has a length of 600 meters. The width of the flyover will be 20 metres.

The flyover will have two lanes and is expected to ease up the traffic on the highway. Only the vehicles between Ullal and Nanthoor will have to use the flyover. Others travelling towards Bendore well, Kankanady and Padil will use the road beneath the flyover.

The famous circle with the 'Kalasha' will soon disappear making way for the flyover. Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has said that a decision on retaining the Kalasha at the same place or shifting it to Padil or a few metres away from the present location on Kankanady road will be taken soon. It should be remembered that there were many objections on the shifting of the Kalasha.

Navayuga constructions which is doing the road work from Kundapur to Talapady is also doing the flyover work. The company officials said that they have coordinated with city traffic police regarding the traffic arrangement during the construction of the flyover. The work will be complete before the arrival of the monsoon, they said.

Navayuga constructions is also constructing a flyover of the same size at Thokkottu. The work on Yekkur to Talapady road will be complete by January end. From then Yekkur to Pumpwell road work will be taken up. An underpass is also proposed to be constructed near Mahakali temple on Yekkur Pumpwell road.

very unfortunate that at this era also we are looking for 600 mtrs length and 20 mtrs wide fly over. What non sense. World has reached some where. We need to think of a fly over which lifts the traffic quite before pumpwell, with a diversion towards Bangalore for the vehicles heading to Puttur / Bangalore, and a length of at least 1 km and land quite far from pumpwell towards Thokkottu. Then only it will be helpful. ALso the flyover should be still wider to accommodate at least 4 lanes.. to cater the future traffic. Or else, lifting a fly over for 600 metrs doesn't make much difference by the time of project completion. it will just shift the blockage from pumpwell junction to the fly over joining junction. that's it. I feel ashamed to see the bykampady bridge, the quality of the construction and the condition of the road in the bridge which is short in one place, wider in some place, no barricade.... OMG. What a bad construction and of course shame on us.

Before constructing a flyover they should visit Mumbai or the nice road and see how it is constructed or it will be like the one near AJ hospital or Bikarnakatta. So uneven its a shame. Roads in mangalore no foot paths. God give some sense to these politicians and teach them some ethics.

First decide who will inaugurate Flyover. Otherwise it will take 2 to 3 years to decide whom to call for inauguration.

Road expansion and repairs including the flyover projects are time consuming, causing further delays and congestions on the daily traffic, specially during the peak hours. Flyover jobs are expensive too and takes longer time for the concrete structures to mature in order to proceed.

Having said all that, road expansions and repairs take time, and the "mother of patience" virtue should be enforced in each of our minds. We must adhere to the traffic diversions and many other inconveniences that are foreseeable due to the massive project in areas that are already congested with growing traffic.

If possible and feasible, some of the construction project should be carried out during the night hours under flood lights because the day time may entail great problems.

All said and done, flyover concept is the beginning of a new era for Mangalore, and people should therefore extend the best possible cooperation to all the City officials as well as the construction personnel in order to perform the job well. Thank you.

A city that wants to become SMART CITY. Disgusting to see my city even without that SMART tag unable to control traffic both in Pumpwell and Nanthoor. Why cant they give the construction of flyover in Nanthoor to some european firm. Traffic has to wait a long time as if toll is collected at this junction. There is no planning presently from district administration regarding this issue. The DC is helpless as he doesn't know the way to progress. Idiotic measures like curfew during Communal violence and ban on sale of Alcohol during festive season just for jokers wanting to be elected someplace.

beauty of the pumpwell will be lost forever with shabby bulgy and too many pillars of the flyover..
width of 20 meters as mentioned in the article will be sufficient for at least 4 lanes..

I can assure you people that even if this flyover is not complete before the onset of the monsoons, it will still be completed much before the 2nd phase Shiradi Ghat concrete road.
As far as I have seen, in the past 18 months, Navayuga constructions have really picked up speed in their quality constructions, although they haven't had much success near Mangalore city. The frequent travelers of Mangalore-Udupi route will back my comment as they have seen the immense progress.

A two way flyover is essential for highway traffic to ensure traffic moves smoothly in both directions.
It is a dismal lack of vision driving an unimaginative waste of taxpayer resources in planning for a one way flyover, considering the traffic volume at this critical junction.

This Pimpwell Flyover work is started without flying colours, it is OK.
But Bejai Fish market was inaugurated three months back with lots of publicity. However still it is not put to use and not let out to fish vendors. The local Corporator himself does not know the reason why !

This is finally a good news from Pumpwell. But, will 20 meter wide fly over road suffice our growing city?

Work begins without publicity? Really Good Trend!
Work should always begin without much publicity.
Too much publicity means surely no work, but deceiving!
One who speaks a lot, seldom delivers!
