Poor souls get the boot. Yes, street vending creats chaos and lots of incovenience to the public in terms of space to walk and litter and garbage . At the same time, a lot of people benefit from it. While the MCC has every right to take care of this in undamged manner, it is their legal duty and obligation to provide them alternative arrangements to do their business. While we supprt the MCC, we must demand from MCC, fair treatment for these earners of daily bread who support their families just like MCC employees supoort theirs. I personally like to buy in open air markets and vending shops and businesses.

For example, a banana, a tender cocunut, sugar cane juice etc. Its fantastic. People in western world just crave for these type of shopping. While we have it, we are discouraging and destroying it. Its a shame. Only thing lacking is support from MCC for these people in terms of providing some space even for a meager charge. Personally, I abstain from mega malls and mega shops. I find it more pleasurable to engage these people in business for their livelyhood.

I also want to point out in this context, the big builders in Mangalore, even have build apartments and strucutures encroaching road side footpaths. and MCC has failed to do anything in terms of demolition of these buildings. This is totally unfair on MCC part. While the big guns get away with law breaking, the little guy gets the boot and the pelting of bull dozers. Can sombody provide any justification?

If I had a choice, I will support these people and their petty shops rather than big malls and shopping centres. Lets support these vendors and lets ask some questions and answers from MCC in terms of rehabilating these people to run their livelyhood.

MCC can show its power only on poor people who are struggling to earn their daily bread. It has no control on the rich influencial business owners who bribe the corrupt officials and politicians....

I  endorse your views. Let the reporters/officials come and see Kankanady - Bendore well area - new shops have come up utilising footpath and eateries blocking not only footpath even the road and high spirit wine shop.

Why demolition of roadside pettyshops when bigger shops are also at fault ask some. Why target only big shops when so many pettyshops are at fault asks some other.

In either case, some beginning has to be made somewhere. Hence, whatever little done by MCC is to be appreciated. Only thing is they have to show determination to proceed further and not stop their good work when petty politicians take them for a ride.

Very good job by DC. He is the most efficient , young and energetic DC our DK ever had. Also he must continue cleanup drive for un-authorized buildings and malls to keep Mangalore neat and clean.I think if we have 100 more Mahabaleswar Rao then definitely India will be so clean and neat. MCC VACATES PETTY SHOPS IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS!! Yes, its very much true, as many rightly commented, its not an adorable great job which MCC has done. Look at Hotel Sujatha at Kodialbail which is on the road since years,and the difficulty for the vehicles to turn and pass through especially big vehicles!!

As far as I know, when Mr. Bharatlal Mina took up this matter, which was during the time of Ex PM Devegowda, in order to suppress this issue, Mr. Bharatlal Mina was transferred! There is no justice at all.

Law is only for common people like these petty shopkeepers who struggle for their daily bread. Therefore,let the MCC now look into such areas without compromising their authority, whether they are big or small. Big shots are surviving by pocketing the politicians by their mutual understanding of warming up the pockets.

Oops!!!!!!! Did i dream of the MCC pulling out all PWD contractors who are responsible for putting a shoddy show on the road....no no not roads lots and lots of roads on potholes. MCC be brave wake up election do something now....if not mistaken elections are drawing closer.

Mr. Robert there's nothing so great that you have to congratulate people involved in this task. Why are these very same officials mum about high rise buildings and the land Mafia. These same officials wag tails like a dog when you throw money as one would throw biscuits to dogs. Why all this hooplah about torturing these little petty shop owners who could not bribe these corrupt officials.

The rich and mighty can get away with clearences by buying these corrupt officials whereas the poor little mans fate is as described above. Although am of the view that petty shop owners were not right but one could have done it in a better organised way.

I'll point out inummerable cases of shop owners who have encroached the footpaths/roads and run business under these encroachments and they are succesful. In all I could sum up saying "paisa pheko adhikari ko kareedo" sadly these petty shop owners must have paid them in tens and not lakhs. Thats India meri jaan....

That makes the difference between violation by Petty shops vis a vis Big Malls/ Bars and Restaurants. In our democracy being or owning "petty" is not pretty, which these shopkeepers might not have understood !!!
