Mangaluru, Dec 28: A minor girl on Monday December 28 filed a complaint in Kavoor police station alleging that she was gang-raped by five youths.

According to the complaint, the 16-year-old girl was gang-raped by Prashant Shetty, a resident of Kunjathbail, and his friends Salman, Naufal, a minor and another man who she did not recognize.

Police have arrested all the five accused and investigation is on.

The girl stated in her complaint that the main accused, Prashant, who was her neighbour, used to harass her from a long time, and when she resisted, he promised to marry her. He then physically exploited her and pressurised her to have sex with his friends too, and threatened her of dire consequences if she disobeyed, she alleged.

As per the complaint, on Sunday December 27, Salman called the girl using Prashant's phone and asked her to come to Panjimogaru bus stop, saying that he had some important matter to discuss with her. When the girl went to the spot, the minor boy came by bike and picked her up, and took her to a house in Panjimogaru. The minor told her to enter the house, and when she did, she saw Prashant, Salman, Naufal and another unknown man sitting inside. When she asked whose house it was, Prashant said it was Salman's, states the complaint.

The girl alleged that she was given a glass of juice and taken inside a room, where the five took turns to rape her. "When I resisted, they tortured me," she alleged.

She was then dropped off at a bus stop near a college by the minor. A few passersby who saw her looking exhausted and ill took her home, she said.

She also claimed that in a similar case to hers, another girl in Thokkottu is in the clutches of one Surendra and Chandrakala and needs to be rescued.

Mangaluru Mahila Shakti accompanied the girl and provided counselling.

Based on the girl's complaint, the Kavoor police have registered a case under POCSO Act and IPC Section 376 D.

Kavoor police made the arrests within hours of the complaint. The arrests were made under the guidance of M N Nataraj with the participation of PSI Umesh and other police personnel.

I feel rape deserves capital punishment That will instill a fear among people who are raping and the incidence of rape will come down drastically down, I think its high time we get tough on people who rape innocent girls especially the minor girls less than the age of 18. They are innocent and dont have much worldly knowledge about the tracherous men who trap them and then rape them. I feel very very sad at this incident. May god punish every rapists on this earth

Exactly. Desire for sex is natural and rightful but it requires permission from the partner.

The moment its proved that force is applied on opposite gender in order to relive your tightened tool, there shouldn't be any mercy - that sexual act should be the last one for the offender !

however your report is silent about who this girl is..., her parents...
is she a migrant or local or a visitor to the place? why parents did not complain? Protection and safe shelter for minors is the duty of parents.

if she is 16, is she studying in school or illiterate/ out.

All is not spoon-fed in news, you need to speculate and apply common sense. Just a look at the last two pictures, it will give an idea about who the girl could be though there are not men around. Its possible that the men in the family are out, earning !

Nevertheless, the girl and the women her family need to be commended to have come out openly about the abuse though its inviting public disgrace on them.

Its the awareness built up after Nirbhaya, no victims hereafter are going to shut-up and endure more.

I Can't understand why you still stick upon law of the land, law of the land. Across Years, Indian law has been changed several times and it can even be changed now.
Okay Hang them or Stone to death, Whatever, but kill them. Always think positive about these things, Especially Rape and all, We call it as hudud in Arabic. Restricted and should be punished if done. According to the Statistics of Indian National Crime Record Bureau. 36,975 women were raped in 2014 in India Alone, which means 1 women was raped every 14 minutes. And also make another point, Number of Rape Attempts are bigger than number of rapes reported.

Only Solution, Hang till Death or Stone to Death for rapists.

Look people, its true that the girl shouldn't have gone on the bike or entered a stranger's house, alone. However, does that make the five men saints ? Are the men to attack a woman by trick or crook ? If they didn't, did they fear the society will brand them impotent ? No ! Its the other way round - the men will be walking free (marrying and living with their family) some day but the chances are most that the girl may end up in red-light area due to disgrace come on her !

Note that he was stalking a 16 year-old and despite of her rejection of his proposal, he called her to talk. Can he marry a 16 year-old ? She may have decided to finish it all for once for all than bearing it each and every day.

Granted - he wanted to take the grudge hence called her and decided to rape ! Why the other four ? What do they have to do in the matter related to the girl and Shetty ?

Are we expecting a time when a future wife will be a rape victim ? Are we prepared to see that our daughter/sister as a victim ? Wake up people - protest ! How long will you see that your mother/sisters/wife are treated as rag by others while you a mute spectator ? Wake before its too late !

All the five rapists should be hanged, and this is only way to stop raping and gang raping habits.
In this case though she is minor only 16 yrs old, but she has matured to follow boys too, that alone, And above all the neighbour and friend is well known to her, plus the other four friends of her friend through whom she traveled in the bike alone is also fishy and tricky thing for her to do.
Such girls also should be warned and jailed for at least one week will give them a lesson.

This is the time for the public to punish the guilty.becos our karnataka /india law is corrupted.

It's always interesting reading the comments here after rape cases are brought to light.Too many readers tend to deny the allegations from the start and cast suspicion upon the rape victims. Why blame the victim? It is a "fact" that many women are raped in India and that the assailants often go unpunished due to these very attitudes. Wake up India! Our women are being raped and many of you are more worried about cricket or Salman Khan. We cannot blame the police. They can only enforce the laws that are in force to the best of their ability. Indian society as a whole must face the truth about these horrendous acts and pass laws that provide more severe consequences for the assailants.

16 year old girl is not a kid, who has no clue why the boys are calling her.
On the other hand, the boys had no right to rape her. But what a normal youth would do in such a scenario? We all act saints and blame the culprits easily.

Really it is a shameful incident. Mangalore... a name which is tarnished to the core. These persons require some severe punishment. No political party should interfere and no influence should be entertained. Cut off their "...." Girls please do not fall prey for this. Concentrate on studies and day today activities in school as well as at home or in some spiritual acts. This will help in keeping away from these satanic acts.

jeevan, Why!?. now you cant point to any community based on names because both sides are involved!. Now you have to only blame government!. In that way congress is thousand times better because when BJP was in power, people in power itself were directly involved in all sorts of such things!

This boys taking law into their own hand. It is tragedy in spite of harsh rape law. Implementation in real term is required by the court and police. So that victim get the justice, culprit get the harsh punishment and criminal minded person get the strong message.

With all due respect to the girl the accused must be severely punished.
But as we see this isn't a one sided story. The main question now arises in our minds as to why the minor girl had to go alone to a man's house?

Like in the case of delhi, that Mohamed Afroz got scot free by claiming that he is juvenile. Before these devils too come up with their fake school certificate to show that they are also juvenile and innocent and the MLAs come their rescue, police, pl apprehend them and punish severely

    Hyda,

Forceful sexual activity is a rape irrelevant of whether the victim is minor or major. Minor applies to the accused if involved, not the victim !

What do you mean by "Since she is minor, it's rape." If she was 18plus will it not be considered as rape?

It is all Ganja power!!! Everyone around panjimogaru know how effective ganja is being circulated in spite of school / college existence. Who knows they are targeting the young student from college located there?

As long as our judicial system remains the same, crime rate will not decrease. They think they can buy a public servant(police), lawyer and our legal system. They forget that they can not buy the Almighty. Days are not far, Mangalore will be struck by disaster for these filthy / lawless / unethical activities.

Since she has mentioned names from different community, I dont think, it is being targeted or some mastermind behind it.

One thing bothers me in her statement is "another girl in Thokkottu is in the clutches of one Surendra and Chandrakala". Someone need to thoroughly investigate this matter to bring out the truth.

    Peter,
If she is major she will not go with stranger and she will not enter unknown house.
She gone through bike and back by bike. She never get kidnapped nor forceful sex.
So, Hyda is right that she is minor and it's rape. Lucky they didn't killed her like Soujanya.
    Rapist should get severe punishment.

    Rahi,

A rape is a RAPE though the victim is a 16 year old or a small baby or an old woman of 60. To be raped, a woman need not go to a deserted house, we see in trains, moving buses, police stations or in open places where a girl went to defecate it happens.

Minor applies when the offender is below the age of adults that was 18 before (16 since recent amendments). Only the punishment applied to minor accused will be less but the clauses remain same as per their offence, it does not become lenient just because he is a minor.

I request Indian law authorities .Death penalty is a must for such rapists.Inspite of watertight rape laws look at their guts.
Scariness in death penalty is a must and live coverage should be done.Sending to gallows and hanging is an easy death.Just throw such rapists to lion's den like bandipura sanctuary .This will definitely scare the hell out of them.

What madam, why you raise your BP? just cool down. Matter may be different than you think, in this statement, that girl herself admitted into the hell. At least she would have gone along with her relatives, the story would be different. Without proper witness, no case will be stand in the court of law. Sathya Mewa Jayate?

It should be as per the law of the land and not per stone age thinking... Law too can hang the criminals when the crime is of that nature.. Only in some remote cases like Nirbhaya where the brutal Mohd afroz got scot free, but atleast the rest will be hanged right?

@Subashchandra: Yeah, you are not ready to implement Sharia Law, As you mentioned its Islamic Law. And to be clear, The Law for Rape that Islam has brought into existence is the only successful law in the entire world for rapists.
@Rajesh: When India is a democratic country there is no mistake in implementing an Islamic Law. All types of religions are practiced in India, you can pick up the best law's in each religion right?? Otherwise you guys try to bring up a new one. . .
