Udupi: UPCL worker dies in accident inside project site

Udupi, Dec 29: On Monday December 28, a worker of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) at Nandikoor near Padubidri died in an accident which occurred inside the project site.

It is said that the worker in question, identified as Ritesh (22) from Madhya Pradesh, was cleaning the valve of the pipeline transporting coal into the thermal power plant. During the process, the valve suddenly started moving and hit the neck of the worker, killing him instantly, it is learnt.

It is gathered that Ritesh was a contract worker. Padubidri police sub-inspector, Azmat Ali, said that a case is being registered against the contracting firm as well as the officials of UPCL relating to this incident.
