Bengaluru, Dec 29: Reportedly, state assembly speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa, has informed law minister, T B Jayachandra, that the motion seeking removal of Upa Lokayukta, Justice Subhash Adi, would be rejected if proper documents in support of allegations made against him are not provided within a couple of days.

Therefore, the government is set to suffer loss of face in this issue if the speaker rejects the motion. The speaker has been seeking documents to prove the allegations so that the chief justice of the state high court can be asked to form inquiry committee to look into them. Reportedly, the speaker had summoned Jayachandra several times in the past, seeking the documents, before giving a final deadline.

Jayachandra is said to have told the speaker that he would revert after consulting the chief minister. The government, which had accused the Upa Lokayukta of misuse of power, and was adamant in his removal, has failed to provide evidence to prove the allegation and documents to prima facie prove that the Upa Lokayukta had misused power.

The government had moved the resolution seeking the ouster of the Upa Lokayukta immediately after the MLAs from BJP and JDS moved motion seeking removal of the Lokayukta, Justice Bhaskar Rao. It has been a month since the motion was moved by Congress MLA, Tanveer Sait.
