Bengaluru: Lokayukta police raid Janardhan Reddy's home, office

Bengaluru, Dec 29 (PTI): Lokayukta Police on Tuesday raided the premises of former minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy for alleged illegal mining and possession of disproportionate assets.

A 42-member team of sleuths from the anti-graft watchdog was involved in the operation, a Lokayukta official said.

Documents pertaining to exports of alleged illegal iron ore and property were seized during the raids led by Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Sampath Kumar, the official said.

Reddy is under probe by both CBI and Lokayukta for alleged illegal mining deals linked to Oblapuram Mining Company and other cases.

Speaking to reporters here in the midst of raids, BJP Lok Sabha member B Sriramulu, a one-time close associate of Reddy, alleged that the raids were nothing but "political vendetta" by the Siddaramaiah government.

Sriramulu alleged that the Congress government in the state was using Lokayukta with "political motives".

He said he would soon file a complaint with CBI against some close associates of the Chief Minister and his son, alleging their links with illegal sand mining.

The once powerful Reddy from the mine-rich Ballari district spent about 40 months in jail before being out on bail in January this year.

Reddy and his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy, managing director of OMC, were arrested by CBI on September 5, 2011 from Ballari.

In the OMC case, the company is accused of changing mining lease boundary markings and indulging in illegal mining in the Ballari Reserve Forest area, spread over Ballari in Karnataka and Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

Allow Lokayukta Institution to carry out its duties/responsibilities fearlessly, without any outside interference, and allow it to bring all the corrupt/wrong-doers to book.

Rule of law and fear of stringent punishment/confiscation of ill-gotten gains, have been the biggest casualty, due to the weakening of the Lokayukta institution during the past couple of years.

Let's all hope for Acche din for the Lokayukta institution and for all honest, law-abiding citizens.

Raiding, arresting, bailing. Bailing, arresting, raiding then again arresting, raiding and bailing, tired of reading this story from last few years. He has done nothing in hiding, he has done openly with the whole hearted support of B. S. Yedurappa. He has not kept the looted money alone, he shared with all big big politiations. Now only tell us when he will be put permanently in 4'X5' jail room for rest of his life? and sell all his belongings and take the money into Karnataka state treasury.
