Udupi: Hurt by polls results; Congress won as voters were lured with money: J P Hegde

Udupi, Dec 31: A day after results of the MLC elections were announced, former MP Jayaprakash Hegde who contested as an independent candidate and lost, said that he was hurt by the result, and alleged that the Congress had won because 'votes were cast in exchange for cash'.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday December 31, J P Hegde said, "I am hurt by the election results, as I had good support in the district. I have been able to gain minimum votes at least, which shows I have voters' support too. But I am hurt that votes were cast in exchange for money. This election was where local body representatives cast their votes, but if had been an election where party workers and the general public could vote, I would have won.

"Party workers supported me, but the support did not transpire into votes. I do not have negative thoughts like some of the ministers and MLAs. My supporters are like my friends and we will work together in future too," he added.

"The main cause for my loss in the elections is that Congress lured the voters with money, pressurised, threatened them and also exploited their religious sentiments. There were differences of opinion in the party before the elctions. I had spoken to Oscar Fernandes regarding this, saying that I was pained by this, but there was no proper response. I had also brought the issue to the notice of the CM and told him about the lack of coordination in the party, but he did not take it seriously," Hegde said.

"The Congress lost in Chikkamagaluru, and one of the reasons was I have many supporters there. In Congress, any candidate could have won because there are MLAs and ministers to support," he said.

"Though Pratapchandra Shetty (Congress candidate who won) did not do much work and did not attend meetings, he was given the ticket. Neverthless, I am not the kind of person to criticize a party or a person. Pratapchandra got charged-up after I decided to contest. Let him work for the development of the local bodies and panchayats," he said.

"I will continue my work in the future also along with my supporters. I will strive to do more for Byndoor, Kaup and Udupi. Being in politics has brought me lots of good friends. I will think about the future of my supporters also," Hegde said.

Asked about his relations with Congress leader Bhujanga Shetty now, he said, "I have good relations with him and it will continue.

To a query on the possibility of him joining JD(S), he said, "I need to think about it, as it is not my decision alone. I will discuss with party workers and decide the future course of action. As of now, I contested as an independent and will remain an independent.

"I contested the elections to preserve internal democracy. Whoever has won should work for the development of the local bodies," he added.

Birthi Rajesh Shetty, Harish Shetty Cherkadi and Kishore were present.

Dear JPH, results were as expected.Probably you were over ambitious and could not able to foresee the results...reasons best known to you. Those who represent main national parties should have patience. Those who changed the party and contested in other parties or contested as independent could not get desired success like Yudiyoorappa, Jagmohan Reddy, Vasantha Salian.......many more. Anyway to do good to the society, one is not necessary that he should be a politician. You can help many as a person. Please continue doing so, who knows tomorrow you may achieve more than what you could achieve as politician

JP Hegde Sir, please do not join JDS but remain independent or join AAP. Because that Deve Gowda family takes all political decisions only after consulting the Astrologers & Priests, and JDS gowdas are pathetically corrupt and they sell MLC & Rajya Sabha Seats for hefty money only and honest people like you have no respect in JDS.

Instead of being gracious in defeat, now a overconfident man who is over rated by people who really actually dont know him is now giving unwanted statements as if only one party or one candidate is involved in money exchange every one and every where does this some deny that's it, and Mr. Hegde is not use to being in one party for long, so now he is just doing the ground work to join a party for his survival, that it very clear, he should realize his own mistatke has brought him to this level, why could not he continue to work for the party, and only intrested in some position, every thing that glitters is not gold, so people should stop adoring this man, he is not that great he might have been a good politician, that does'nt mean he should get the ticket , there are hundreds of party workers who strive day in and out in a party and dont get anything just for power to be there is not good, now very soon we will see his announcement that he has joined a particular party because of his supports ha ha (not because of his greed) will be announced soon, anyway all the best Mr.JPH,
Oh by the way I may be wrong too as its my own opinion and I dont belong to any party for that matter.Jai Ho

JPH can contest for Taluk Panchayath election and try the luck. Power hungry person he deserved for this defeat. If he have many supporters in Udupi- Chikmagalore, why he could not win the last MP election? He contested as Congress rebel candidate and lost, what he achieved from this? His political career already ends.

JPH got more than 800 votes out of 6000 as independent candidate...if any of your CONgress leaders contested as independents they would have gotten less than dozen votes...

Defeat is not the end of a politician...rather beginning of future victory...

If your future MLA(Devi) contested this election(as independent)...other than Paniyur...he would have got Zero votes...

    Mr. Hegde,
If money played major role you should have won the election. You have contested the election with the guaranty of financial aid from your contractor friends. But votes have show the party loyalty. Don't spoil the worker's political life for fulfill your political desire. All you guys are equal... benefit goes only your close aid's. It was direct fight between KPS & your supporters.. He got party support & won the election. U should have abide the party call. There is no big difference to u and others...just putting extra efforts to build personal image with some drama. Voters know ur eye on next assembly election. Just need a strong reason to answer people about changing party now & then. Kapu, Udupi & Byndore are ur choice to contest from. Started knocking the door of........ hope u will succeed in that...Any way good luck for your future political carrier.

"Madidunno Maharaya". " Na Ghar ka na Ghat ka"!!!!. Comparing to other politicians JPH is the luckiest politician!!!. He first time won from Brhmavar in 1994, immediately got ministership under Devegowda cabinet by the influence of his US doctor brother & Jaipal Reddy & by sidelining senior leader Amarnath Shetty. In 2008 he joined Congress & immediately got MLA ticket for Kundapur. In 2009, 2012 & 2014 he got MP Ticket from Congress. Now again this time he wanted MLC Ticket. No leader from Congress party got like this chances.

"Once anybody got the power, he never give up the power, always thinking about power", this is not my words, this was the words of "JP Hegde"!!!!!!!!

JP Hegde is good candidate for the people at all time ! this MLC election is total bogus and not contributing towards development at all! real election is MLA/MP where general public vote and chose ! i am sure in this MLC election most of the congress voters told not to cast their 2nd vote to Hegde! even though still he secured over 35- 40 % of the total congress vote ! this shows his clean image . i suggest him to join BJP or contest independent for the next up coming MLA seat ( udupi or kaup ) , he will diffinatley beat any congress candidate .

    Dear Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde,

You are a honest man, non corrupt, always helpful, always kept in touch with Udupi/Chikmagaluru voters and helped them in their need to the best of your ability. Unfortunately you lost patience, it is not right to criticize congress, they gave you several chances, they would have definitely given you MP ticket for 2019 lok sabha poll, but you were in a hurry, we know there are several greedy, corrupt, dishonest people in that party, those are the people who will always get priority as they are too close to influential leaders.

Don't get disheartened, you have lot of public support, 6000 odd voters in MLC poll will not decide your future. in 2 years time there will be assembly election, you contest as independent candidate in either Bhramavar or Udupi, you will win hands down, please do not join useless JD(S) or radical BJP.

Failure is the stepping stone to success, next time victory is yours Mr. Hegde, please cheerful.
    God bless you.
    Your sympathizer.

    JP Sir,
You were in Congress party, so before election itself, you must be aware that Congress might lure voters with money. So, how did you decide to contest against party nominated candidate?

Congress has given you opportunities to contest in big elections. You should have some patience to wait for the next chance.
Now only option remain with you is, join BJP, who doesn't lure voters with money(?), but fake promises and hatred among religions.

These ministers & MLAs become MLA because of congress votes plus your personal votes plus Harekrishna supporters votes. ln kundapura assembly constituency, there may.be mutual agreement between congress & BJP. In MLC election bjp supports congress & in assembly elections vice-versa. ln this election bjp votes went in favour of congress. That is how congress .won by 1st preference votes.

As mentioned by JPH this is not people mandate but "local body representatives cast their votes".
Elected BJP local body members voted BJP and Congis voted Dongis. As simple as it it. If Public would have voted then congress would have hardly one 2 or 3 votes this time. No problem, they are still not majority in Upper house. In 2018 they will come to minority in lower house also.

Next assembly election, its Triangular fight in Udupi constituency where Hegde may represent as independent or join JDS.

So advantage...? No prizes for guessing.

First of all, personally I support politicians with clean image(non corrupt), which we believe JP is one.
Secondly, I am not a Congressman. But, I vote Congress because I am not convinced with BJP ideology, it is not at all acceptable for me personally.
Thirdly, I don't feel bad, if JP or anyone else blame or slam Congress. If you call people who support Congress, a 'slaves', you Bhakts too are 'Bakraas', who blindly fall for fake promises, brainless speeches & morphed photoshop images.
