Mangaluru: Hearty news for moviegoers - 'Dilwale' back on screens from Jan 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Dec 31: Here's good news for Mangalureans, a New Year's gift of sorts especially for moviegoers in the city. After days of wait, Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer 'Dilwale', directed by Rohit Shetty, will finally be screened in all the multiplexes in the city from Friday January 1.

'Dilwale', which released on December 18, was taken off the screens after activists of Bajrang Dal protested against the movie on December 20, over superstar Shah Rukh Khan's comments on intolerance. They had also allegedly threatened the multiplex managements against screening of any movie of Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan.

Confirming the resumption of the movie, Balakrishna Shetty of Big Cinemas in Bharat Mall, told daijiworld that there was a lot of pressure from the distributors, hence the managements of all the multiplexes (Big Cinemas, PVR and Cinepolis) had decided to screen the movie from January 1.

He however added that the managements have not yet sought police protection during the screening.

Speaking to daijiworld, DCP Shantharaju said that though the theatres have not sought security yet, the police department was prepared to provide protection whenever the movie is to be screened.

After Bajrang Dal forcibly stopped the screening of the movie, the Citizens' Forum for Mangalore Development led by Vidya Dinker had filed a complaint against Bajrang Dal convener Sharan Pumpwell and other activists. The Forum had also written to chief minister Siddaramaiah and home minister Dr G Parameshwara, who had assured to take action in the case. The police had arrested 6 persons in connection to the case and released them on bail. Though police had given adequate security to the malls, the multiplex managements were reluctant to screen the movie.

Responding to the development, Vidya Dinker, speaking to daijiworld said, "It is a good sign. In response to a common citizen standing up, at least the theatre owners are also standing up to these kind of intimidatory tactics of such extremist groups. The police action in providing security to the theatres must have also helped. But what we look forward to is an atmosphere of freedom and security that cinegoers can enjoy in 2016."

Bookings for the movie have already opened in all the multiplexes.

Unlike Aamir and Salman, SRK is not just famous only in India. He has a phenomenal star value in the whole world. President Obama's last visit to India, he mentioned only SRK's name and about his romantic movie lines. SRK is the India's ambassador to the world.

Only a few fringe elemental groups do voice against his comments, which indeed do not affect his celebrity status or financial viability of his movies.

By the way, I am not the fan of any of these Khans but I like movies of Akshay Kumar.

Dilwale might disappear from theater in one week from release, because everyone knows, Bhakts have downloaded it from Internet & watched secretly!

The ban or protest is loss for theater owners & distributors only. Movie producers earned big profit as collection of Dilwale is 285 crores so far.

Thank you & Happy New Year

Watch 'Dilwale' or leave it... movie is leading the worldwide box office battle with a huge sum of Rs 284 crores (156 crores in India & 128 crores overseas) in its kitty in just 13 days run.

Next is FAN, which is expected to break all records as FAN has no competition during its release, like Dilwale (Dilwale had strong competition from another super hit movie Bajirao Mastani)

I am not absolute Congress Fan.Even BJP without RSS Group ad Chaddis, would be o.k. All the Chaddi wala of R.S.S., B.D. V.H.P. should be banned as Political Party. Then there will be peace in Mangalore which nowhere in India you can find.

Hence, I would like to request never give any votes or tske chances with B.J.P. Party in total Karnataka State in future too. Thank you.

After all, these Political Parties spend crores of rupees to win the Elections, everywhere in the world not only in India it is so. Still Congress can be better then other parties. One more thing we should not accept Siddamiah as C.M. in Karnataka, he is an idiot, not fit for C.M. Role, don't you all remember sometime back these people where using selfies with other leaders also during an important meeting and it was because of Daiji's photographers who took the pictures and put in the news. That's why I always will be fan of Daijiworld News. If any comments on my writings here is wrong I would like to apologise for it.

We have to respect Ms Vidya Dinker's courageous stand despite dire threats from the uncivilized bunch. She has shown the common citizen that they have to stand up for their rights and when they so their rights cannot be denied. Respect to her!
I can only hope this spells the beginning of the end of the goonda raj in what was once peaceful Mangalore

Respect will only double if someone stands against the protesters of different kind, say viswaroopam ban or Charlie magazine..
Taking on the BD is no great deal because we all know they can just abuse but will run away with minimum police force... but what about the protest in other cases? If someone stands firm in things, then we can call the person as courageous.

Dilwale not running in our multiplexes was the failure of the law and order department of the region and the multiplex owners take it easy attitude. This shows how vulnerable this region is and how easily the anti-social elements can dictate their term on the general public. It is a dangerous trend and if not curtailed on time there are chances that more radical groups from different religion and caste will control our business establishments and malls.

WRONG!!! It has minted more than 150 crores domestically and with huge fan base abroad even more.
Fringe elements contributed to the movie because SRK fans made sure it is a box office hit.
Few Sanghis cannot hamper SRK's success or his fame.

Why no outrage against Priyanka Chopra? Nationalism is not religion based issue.

Forced ban is not justified. However the movie is crap. It is a crap mix of yashji's love theme, David Dhavan's comedy theme and Rohit Shetty's action theme. 1 out of 5 stars from me
