Mangaluru, Jan 1: As the clock struck midnight, the city erupted in joyous celebrations welcoming the New Year with much spirit and gutso.

Dazzling displays of vibrant fireworks lit up the night sky and ushered in the New Year in various parts of the city.

There were plenty of New Year parties across the city. Live orchestra with the latest Bollywood and Sandalwood hits, DJs playing peppy dance numbers, laser lights and lavish spreads of food and drink added spark to the occasion. Revellers, chiefly made of youngsters, enjoyed the music and entertainment and danced away to glory till after midnight.

Clubs, hotels and resorts that organized the New Year parties were full of families including children. One of the most enjoyable New Year events was 'Bang Bang 2016' at Pandit's Health Resort in Moodbidri.

No untoward incidents were reported. The police had issued strict guidelines and provided tight security to ensure that the New Year celebrations were without incident. A close eye was kept to make sure revellers do not drink beyond permissible limits and drive. A special police squad had been formed to ensure the safety of women and children.

Earlier in the evening, New Year celebrations began on a solemn note with a Mass at St Lawrence Church, Bondel.

Daijiworld wishes all its readers a happy, prosperous and fabulous New Year!
