Kasargod, Jan 1: A man lost his life and his son sustained injuries in an accident that occured in the wee hours of New Year here.

The accident took place at around 1.30 am when one lorry hit another at Karandakkad here.

Prabhakar (60), a resident of Mallapuram died while his son Sujesh (32) sustained injuries.

Both father and son were employees at a jewellery store in Uppala. They had planned to travel to their native town by taking a train from Kasargod. Accordingly, on Thursday December 31 night, they got into a goods lorry that was plying from Uppala to Kasargod.

The lorry stopped at Karandakkad and even as Prabhakar and his son were alighting, another lorry that was moving at a high speed rammed into the goods lorry from behind. The impact of the collision was such that Prabhakar got thrown on to the road and died on the spot.

Boxes of beer bottles that were in the lorry were strewn on the road. Police and locals who arrived at the spot helped in clearing them.

Drivers of both the lorries fled from the spot soon after the accident.

Kasargod town police have registered a case.
