Puttur: Police take away 20 persons from prayer centre, avert 'attack'

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur

Puttur, Jan 1: The Puttur police on New Year's eve night took 20 persons of a prayer centre to the police station, averting a raid reportedly planned by a right-wing outfit on the centre.

It is learnt that on the night of Thursday December 31, the police went to the Believers Church of India (BCI) prayer centre at Jodukatte and rounded up 20 persons and took them away.

Sources said that the police had received information that a right-wing group had planned to attack the prayer centre claiming allegations of 'conversion'. To avert any possible trouble, the police reached the spot and took 20 persons to the police station as a precautionary measure, sources said. Some of the persons included coolie workers, it is learnt.

Authorities of BCI prayer centre explained that people had gathered at the centre only to participate in New Year's prayer and there was no other activity going on.

The police released all the 20 later. No case was registered.

An attack was supposedly planned on a prayer centre, and instead of arresting the attackers, the police took those in the prayer centre? This is ridiculous. However, this is not new. When Bajrang dal threatened theatre owners over Dilwale, the police advised the owners to pull off the film instead of catching the goons. Also, in most cases where cattle traders have been brutally assaulted by Sangh goons, the police usually press charges and apprehend the victim (despite very little proof of wrongdoing), and let the attackers go free.

The police have merely proven what people have been saying for a long time now - in the district, there's no difference between the police and the Bajrang Dal

police has the names of all the suspected attackers. coz they are goondas, police fear them or are one with them and catch the likely victims. good policy. thats why police feel protected in police stations. actually some of them are right wing agents carrying out its agenda, throwing dust to public eyes. its a pity they have tarnished the names of both the districts, otherwise known for its brilliance and communal harmony. may almighty bless with common sense to the people (including the police)of both the districts. amen.

Perhaps this is the first time in the history of the police force taking into custody people, peacefully gathered in a place worship, rather than booking the would be attackers. Now the police in turn should be charged for disrupting prayers and for negligence of duty by not apprehending the prospective culprits.

Dear Shankar, For ur kind information, Prayer halls doesn't serve liquor. Bible Copies are distributed so that one can learn more abt Love, Forgiveness, Compassion, Peace & Responsibilities. If you think one will convert just by reading a Bible, then u got it wrong. Only if a person want to embrace any religion from his soul than only he can convert.

According to me, rather than living like a mad dog/Goonda showing off your power to scare someone & torture, it is wise to embrace a religion which can make you humble, kind & give you peace. I don't say it is just Christianity that one needs to embrace. Every religion teachings are beautiful, wat a person needs to highlight is wat he want to learn & wat he wants to become. A person needs to learn to Love than only he can live a religion of HUMANISM....

Are we living in Saudi Arabia?Minister Ramanath Rai should take this issue very seriously and order the police to arrest all those goondas and their supporters and leaders immediately.

Police attack a wedding function to arrest an alleged criminal, just like in movies near Belthangady, now they take into custody to prevent attack on victims. Good going- no change in attitude or actions despite change of Police Chief or Home Minister.
Next time arrange prayer meetings in Police Stations to avert attack.
The same way arrest groom & bride to prevent attack on their party function.
Arrange all religious prayers inside Police Stations to prevent attack on them.
Keep all the politicians inside the lock up to prevent them being attacked as well.

When will our religious leaders across faiths stop using the faith as one-upmanship? All religions say god is one and many names are just manifestations or avarats. All good karmas will take to salvation. Just by believing in a god and doing bad karma cannot take us anywhere. Nothing can absolve the sorrows, poverty, breakups, illness whatnot. Lets practice live and let other live and respect others faiths as much as we respect ourselves.

The coolie workers are lured in to these kind of prayers and new year celebration with liquor. Once the prayers are over, there begins the attempts of conversion. Bible copies are distributed and Jesus' supremacy on other Gods is preached.

Now tell us what is wrong in police stopping such illegal activity?

    Dear Shankar, Mangalore,

On which ground are you saying illegal activities from the BCI???!!!

First of all the police have no right to enter into the prayer home/church without the permission of the district administration.

Secondly, the police are the protectors to the church and not the destroyers.

Thirdly, the constitution gives full rights to teach, preach and propagate and to accept any faith after recognizing and agreeing to embrace such faith.

Thirdly, the police should have watched from out side noting who comes to attack the un-armed Christians.

    FINALLY,

    HINDUS HAVE CARRIED OUT CONVERSIONS.
    CHRISTIANS HAVE CARRIED OUT CONVERSIONS.
    MUSLIMS HAVE CARRIED OUT CONVERSIONS.
    BUDDHISTS HAVE CARRIED OUT CONVERSIONS.
HISTORY IS EVIDENT TO THIS EFFECT.

NOW WHICH CONVERSIONS ARE YOU SPEAKING.

Don't be so foolish in commenting. People like you accused Mother Theresa of conversion when she was helping people without looking at their religion, caste or creed. Do you have any guts to help your fellow human being? Do you have any sympathy for untouchables? If you cannot do anything good for fellow Indians, then you don't have any right to talk about others.
