Udupi: Pedestrian killed by speeding car at Pangala

Udupi, Jan 2: After a Maruti Ritz car bearing Kerala registration number hit a person crossing the road at Pangala near here on Thursday December 31, he suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. The incident occurred in front of Aryadi Lord Janardana temple at Pangala.

The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Kotian (34), residing near Lord Janardana temple, Pangala.

Jagannath used to work at a shop in the town. On Thursday night, he arrived at Pangala after work hours by bus at around 9 pm, and was crossing the road, when a recklessly driven Maruti Ritz coming from the direction of Udupi knocked him down. Locals immediately took Jagannath, who was profusely bleeding on account of serious injuries, to a private hospital here, where he breathed his last at about 11 pm, without responding to treatment.

The driver of the killer car fled from the scene, leaving behind the car, after the accident. Jagannath has left behind wife and two children. Kaup police have seized the car and registered a case. They have launched an investigation.
