Mangaluru, Jan 2: A huge container which stood across the road near Pumpwell threw traffic out of the gear in the city for about an hour on Saturday January 2 morning.

The container in question was moving towards Kasargod from the city during rush hour traffic. When it was moving from in front of Indiana Hospital near Pumpwell Circle, the driver was trying to turn the vehicle towards the highway leading into Kerala, when the vehicle got stuck between the divider and the footpath. In spite of efforts of the driver, the container refused to budge, creating a traffic block which unnerved those who were rushing to offices and railway station.

Buses, cars, trucks, and other vehicles were stranded at the spot, while two-wheelers sneaked in through the narrow  passage. Traffic police arrived at the spot, and after prolonged efforts, succeeded in making the container move forward. This unexpected jam tested the patience of the road users and exposed the fragile nature of the city traffic which could be thrown out of gear with even a small incident at strategic spots like the above.

Such containers should not be allowed not only at peak hours, even at non peak hours this mammoth container should not be allowed by the RTO. If this type of vehicle falls on any car or two wheeler we can imagine the disaster.
