Udupi: Thousands to witness Paryaya on Jan 18, Horekanike from Jan 5

Udupi, Jan 3: Ahead of the Paryaya on January 18, the Paryaya welcome committee on Saturday January 2 held a press meet to brief about the preparations for the event at Sri Krishna Math.

Addressing the press meet, Ratna Kumar said, "The committee members are expecting thousands of people at the celebration. Swamijis' visit to Krishna Math, Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara Temples will be followed by a felicitation programme organized by the welcome committee. This programme will be presided over by Kaniyoor Math Swamiji along with the dignitaries such as district-in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLA Pramod Madhwaraj at Sri Poornaprajna Mantap, Car Street.

"Sri Vidyadheeshatheertha Swamiji of Palimar Math will deliver the felicitation message. Prior to this, thousands of students from Alva's Education Institution will partake in a colourful cultural procession commencing from Jodukatte, Udupi," he added.

"On this occasion, ascending Swamiji Sri Vishweshateertha of Pejawar Math will name a connecting route from Kalsanka to Vadiraj road by honouring former Swamijis who have contributed their services nationwide. He will inaugurate the cultural festivities that will continue till January 24. He will also launch the postal stamps by the postal department," he informed.

Pejawar Swami will also inaugurate the exhibition-cum-sales stalls which are part of Paryaya for the first time.

Horekanike will take place from January 5 to January 16. Every evening, cultural programmes from various parts of districts will be held. The special attraction during Horekanike will be programme by devotees of Yadagiri, Ballari, Raichur and Kalburgi districts on January 13. A variety of cultural programmes will be held from January 4 to 17.

Religious rituals will take place on January 17 for the whole day. On the same day in the evening, the ascending Swamiji will honour the present Paryaya Kaniyoor Swamiji. There will be Maha Annasantarpana from 7 pm to 11pm on January 17.

On January 18, at around 2:30 am, the historical Paryaya will take place along with the ascension of Sarvajna Peeta and Darbar Sabha in the presence of three chief ministers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Dr G Shankar, president, G Shankar family trust released the invitation of Paryaya.

Raghuramchar, Diwan, Balaji Raghavendracharya, working president, chief secretaries, Bhuvanendra Kediyur, Heranje Krishna Bhat, Pradeep Kalkur, Ganesh Rao, Padmanabh Bhat, treasurer and others were present.
