Chris Brown investigated for allegedly punching woman


Las Vegas, Jan 3 (IANS): Singer Chris Brown is being investigated by police after a woman claimed he punched her in the eye at the Palms Casino Resort here.

According to the police, the lady victim was attending a private party on Saturday at the singer's hotel room.

The guests were not supposed to bring in their cellphones but she managed to slip hers in without security noticing.

The woman, who was identified as Liziane Gutierrez, got into an argument with Brown when she tried to take a photograph of him with her phone, reports tmz.com.

He reportedly yelled at her, gave her a punch on the right eye, took her phone and left in rage.

"The victim was alleged to have been battered by Brown, who at the same time took her cell phone," raad a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department public relations officer Jesse Roybal.

"A verbal altercation took place as the victim was escorted out of the room by private security and into the hallway," Roybal added.

Police received a report of battery on Saturday morning. The officers met a female "who appeared to have minor injuries sustained as a result of a battery”.

"I can confirm that Chris Brown is part of the investigation," Roybal added.

The police went to the hotel room to speak to Brown but were not allowed inside. The singer is said to have had left the place.

The police's official report is for misdemeanour, theft of the phone, and battery, while a representative of Brown said that woman's claims were "undeniably untrue”.
