Puttur, Jan 4: In an accident which occurred at Mareel Kadumath on the outskirts of the town on Saturday January 2 night, a person travelling by the ill-fated auto rickshaw lost his life after the three wheeler met with an accident involving a car.

Taranath Poojary (34), a resident of Mukwe in Narimogaru village in the taluk, lost his life in the accident.

Taranath was an electrician by profession. He was on his way home in an autorickshaw when the accident occurred. When the autorickshaw tumbled on the road after hitting the car, Taranth got sandwiched between the vehicle and road and suffered grave injuries. He was provided initial treatment at a private hospital in the town before being taken to a hospital at Mangaluru for further treatment. He passed away without responding to treatment there.

It is gathered that the car in question had hit a pedestrian named Sajida near the mosque at Bhaktakody before reaching Mareel Kadumath. Sajida was being taken to the hospital in the town for treatment, when the car met with an accident once again. Sajida is being treated at a private hospital here.

Two others, Teresa and Angel, who were also travelling with Taranath in the three-wheeler, escaped with minor injuries. The traffic police here have registered a case.
