Mangaluru: No garbage collection in city from Jan 5?

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jan 5: It has been learnt that Antony Waste Management Company which has been doing the solid waste management within Mangaluru City Corporation limits has decided to stop garbage collection from Tuesday, January 5.

As per the information available, the reason for the decision of suspending services is the amount owed by the city corporation. The corporation reportedly owes Rs 10 crore as on January 4 to Antony waste management company.

Antony waste management company has 150 vehicles with 950 employees in its payroll. Because of non payment of the dues, it has become very difficult for the company to manage its daily operations, company sources said.

Some months back also the company had stopped its services for non payment of dues and the corporation has asked it to resume services after promising the payment.

Since opposition is appears to be a mute spectator (who were otherwise very vocal when it comes on issues of public good), please inquire as to who was governing the corporation at the time of signing of this outsourced garbage cleaning contract.

Since i honestly don't know the information - seek the same through RTI application for us to know the clear picture.

If you talk to people who are well versed with the functioning of the corporation, you will realize that garbage collection and drainage maintenance are two BIG avenues of "earnings" for the officials and corporators irrespective of the party affiliation.

More likely than not, all these bandicoots are conniving to get the garbage collection agency out of their way, so that they can go back to their good old times of making merry (and of course money too).

All the attempts to streamline these areas have been thwarted by the coterie in the past. In the 90s Danish government had provided state of the art equipment to the city corporation and all that equipment was left to rust!

Hum nahin sudhrenge..... We are the fools who argue and fight based on party affiliations without realizing that all parties are alike when it comes to loving Gandhi... The Gandhi who is printed on the currency notes...

Also throw the garbage around concerned authority houses and ministers and Dc's house for not paying the huge amount, rs ten crores to the company. They have given this job to only to one company so that they can increase the payment as the Anthony company demands(monopoly) . This is all planned drama so that they can increase garbage clearing charges from the public and they can pocket the kickbacks.

If the Corporation cannot afford to pay Antony Waste Management Company why did it appoint them for garbage collection in the first place? Second, now that Antony Waste Management Company has not collected garbage for one day, will the Corporation refund us the proportionate amount of tax collected towards garbage collection? Does the Mayor have any answers?

Pope Francis says, "The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth".
If we have to keep our earth clean, we have consider it as our home. All of us keep our homes clean and tidy, then why not 'earth' which is our common home? Why depend so much on municipalities to clean our common home? Each household, each housing society must manage the garbage generated by them. If each household segregate the garbage generated by the family into dry and waste, half the battle is won. Dry garbage becomes wealth for scrap dealers and wet waste can become wealth for farmers, i.e. fertile manure.
Are we ready to do this simple act of segregating the garbage produced at our homes? instead of cursing darkness, let us light a candle!

    Dear Fr.Felix,
From your comment it is clear that you are completely out of what is happening in Mangalore with regard waste/garbage management. All those things suggested by you are being done at their domestic level is being done by the Citizens of the City. Over and above they have also contributed towards collection and removal of the segregated waste to the dumping place at Pachenady through the Antony Waste Management Company with whom the Mangalore City Corporation has made arrangement. Of course, that Company cannot be expected to do their work for free, and that is where the hitch is.
Must be, as per the prevailing trend, some bl'dy b'terd authorised to pass the bills of the Antony Waste Management Company is not doing so since his palm is not greased. In this situation it is for the First Citizen of the City to see that proper disciplinary steps are taken against the erring official through his superiors and ensure that the work of removal of garbage from the City takes place without any hitch.

Seems Swatch Bharat cess collection is going straight to the pockets of some companies existing only on paper. Jaitley has good rapport building and paying such companies.

It is unfortunate that companies that has done good work are not getting paid. Mangalore coroporation should not wait for release of funds from Modi Govt.
Modi Govt., can spend huge amount money on ad's on TV channels like Times of India, but can not divert part of it to get the real work done. They are there only to take credit like they often do.

MCC must devise ways to self finance these projects.

Without jumping to conclusions, Mayor or commissioner should be given a chance to explain to the public about the issue. There could be another side to the issue. But if they don't, we can assume that there is some hanky panky going on. It is well known that contractors don't get paid until some cuts are assured
